Job Interview Questions

The job interview questions with a purpose

The job interview in essence consist of a conversation, allowing the employer to get to know you and for you to see what they are like. Whilst interviews can be nerve wracking experiences, it should be remembered that the interviewer is only human and it is possible that they are nervous also.

The primary part of the job interview are interviewer questions.

In advance of the interview prepare yourself by checking job interview tips, carry out research into what the company do and think of some questions you want to ask.

Do not volunteer information that the interviewer
doesn't ask for.

Be prepared for all type of questions, particularly about yourself in detail, why you want the job and what you can contribute to the company. Job interview questions may range from:

  • 'Why did you choose to persuade a degree in ... ?',

  • 'Describe the job you had last with ...',

  • 'What are your strengths/weaknesses?' to

  • 'What are your long-range career goals?'.

If you are prepared for the job interview, you will be able to promote your qualifications effectively as you respond to questions. With practice, you will gain confidence and become more polished in your presentation.

Eventually the interviewer will probably say, 'Do you have any questions?'. Always ask questions because this demonstrates your prior research and interest in the job. Your questions should be direct and logical, such as:

  • 'When can I expect to her from you?' (if that has not been discussed),

  • A question to clarify information the interviewer has presented,

  • A question regarding the employer's use of new technology or practices related to the career field, or

  • A question to assess the culture and direction of the organization such as 'Where is this organization headed in the next five years?' or 'Why do you like working for this organization?'.

Do not ask specific questions about salary or benefits unless the employer broaches the subject first.
