What do you have to offer an employer? Knowing yourself will help you answer this question and can help you to decide what type of job is right for you. So, learn more about what other skills you have to offer.
Your skills can be broken into two categories: TECHNICAL and PERSONAL SKILLS.
Technical skills are skills you learned in past jobs, in volunteer positions, in school and in life. These skills can help you get a job and keep it! Some technical skills are:
- driving a car or truck
- operating a cash register
- overhauling small engines
- supervising and training others
- designing window displays
- fabricating, constructing, designing
- coordinating activities or events
- working extended and rotating shifts
- operating office equipment
- providing excellent customer service
- operating machinery, special equipment or power tools

Many of our best skills are not just developed on the job - they are developed in our everyday activities too! (They are often called "transferable skills.")
Personal skills include attitude, personality and work habits. These skills affect how you do your job and what kind of work suits you best.

- communicating well

In recent years it become increasingly popular to join the LinkedIn or Facebook social networking websites for professionals, where you may search for jobs and have your keyword-optimized, rich content profile with current CV or resume. Hiring managers use them more frequently to consult your profile and supplement or check against the CV/resume you send along. If you do not have an account, create one and include your social media link(s) on your CV/resume.
However, you should manage your online presence. Eliminate any photos and statements that could reflect poorly on you. From an employer’s point of view, someone who emphasizes partying on a social networking site is not focused on jobs and those who post complaints about work or colleagues are less desirable candidates. Online CV/resume should not include sensitive information as they could show lack of respect for confidentiality and discretion.
