The standard resume, no matter how effectively prepared, written or presented, is no longer adequate to meet the demands of resume scanning technology. A new resume style, utilizing power keywords and phrases, has developed - the keyword resume. You can write keyword resume in chronological resume or functional resume style formats.
The keyword resume, often called an electronic resume, must contain an adequate description of the job seeker's characteristics and industry specific experience presented in keywords and phrases terms in order to accommodate the electronic and/or computer process. A new way of writing a keyword resume
Firstly, you need to make a list of job-specific keywords used in a job advert and/or job description to which you are responding. Look for the words that appear early in an ad or job description - the first keywords mentioned are likely the most important.
Secondly, take each job-specific keyword you have identified in the first step above. In context, list more fully the activities and accomplishments that describe how you have used the skill represented by that job-specific keyword in your work. Use synonyms, various forms of your keywords, and both the spelled-out and acronym versions of common terms. For example, use all "engineer", "engineering", "engineering professional", "engineered", "mechanic", "designer" or "constructor", "Professional Engineer" and "P.Eng" or "Prof. Eng", etc. In this way, you will create the list of resume keywords for your resume mirroring the job-specific keywords used in the job ad. Categorize these keywords from most important or critical to less important.

Using list created in the second step write your keywords resume. At the beginning of your resume, create a section labeled "Objectives", "Career Summary", "Summary of Qualifications," "Professional Profile," or simply "Profile". Summaries are the ideal section in which to highlight your critical or most important keywords, and you can do this either in a paragraph format or a listing of bulleted items. By doing so, you are quickly communicating your core qualifications for immediate impact.
Take each resume keyword you have identified as critical in the second step and get as many as possible into such a section remembering that when your resume will pass the first resume screening by a computer, a human will read it too. Stuff your resume with as many as possible resume keywords remembering that it must be readable to humans and scannable to computers.
Most applicant screening software not only looks for keywords but also ranks them according to the importance of the keyword to the job criteria, with some keywords considered mandatory. Resumes with the greatest "keyword density" will be chosen for the next round of screening, this time by a human. Normally, the more specific a keyword is to a particular job or industry, the more heavily it will be weighted.
Many sources states that your keyword resume should contain between 20 and 35 keywords. So, if you resume contains fewer than that, try to stuff up every section of your resume with keywords, varying the forms of the keywords you select. Having the right keywords in your resume will not guarantee you a job but not having them in the resume almost guarantees that you will not get an interview. Avoid emphasizing keywords that relate to jobs you do not want. This is particularly important when you post your resume on Internet job boards.
