An individual contributor role that provides a high level of expertise in the design, development, and integration of strategic, high-priority data applications across the entire software development lifecycle (Agile). This role may also provide guidance to others to support the building of complex technical capabilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Build large-scale data processing systems and data lakes, optimized for both computational and storage efficiency on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Create ETL processes to build warehouse tables to facilitate reporting on Insurance Policy and Claim domain data from Policy and Claim processing systems.
  • Design and implement complex physical data models on columnar cloud data bases like Bigquery.
  • Lead the design, implementation and automation of data pipelines sourcing data from internal and external systems, transforming the data for the optimal needs of various systems and business requirements.
  • Lead robust unit testing to ensure deliverables match the design and provide expertise to support subsequent release testing.
  • Actively adhere to established quality and reliability standards, and ensure team adheres to the same quality and standards working in an Agile development environment.
  • Lead the creation of integrated data views based on business or analytics requirements.
  • Research, identify and implement process improvements that address complex technology gaps.
  • Build strong knowledge of technology enablers.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Reporting Relationship

Typically Director or above

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, applied computer science, computer engineering or related
  • 5 (five) years of experience as a software developer, data engineer, consultant or related.

Must have some work experience with each of the following:

  • Build large-scale data processing systems and data lakes, optimized for both computational and storage efficiency on Google Cloud Platform or AWS within insurance domain;
  • Create ETL processes to build warehouse tables to facilitate reporting on Insurance Policy and Claim domain data from Policy and Claim processing systems; and
  • Design and implement complex physical data models on columnar cloud data bases like Bigquery or Redshift.

Up to 80% telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the United States.

Mon-Fri., 8:30am – 4:45pm, 37.5 hours/week, $151,323 to 155,000 per year, overtime exempt. This position qualifies for CNA’s employee referral policy program.
