Canada Work Permit

Jobs in Canada needs more than the Canada work permit and just the obvious Canada cover letter and Canada resume writing and translation – it requires thorough preparation. You will face problems that in all probability did not even cross your mind when you decided to try a job search in Canada.

Do not take too lightly the influence the Canada work permit can have on the result of your adventure! For example, you will experience the unfamiliar immigration rules and practices, job application procedures, job selection trends and the management culture.

Most visits to Canada are trouble-free but you should be aware of the risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks, which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers like restaurants, hotels, clubs and shopping areas. In recent years, the Canadian authorities have carried out a number of investigations and operations against terrorist networks.
You should exercise a high level of security awareness and monitor local news broadcasts and consular messages. Making local contacts quickly and seeking support from other expatriates will greatly increase your comfort and safety

Canada Work Permit

If you would like to work in Canada, you will need a Canada Visa and a Canada Work Permit. It is important to obtain in advance the correct visa that gives you the right to work in Canada. There are various categories of entry visa. For each category, a different point system is used.

Anyone who is not a Canada citizen or a permanent resident who wishes to work in Canada requires authorization. To work in Canada, foreigners can travel on a temporary visa and apply for a Canada work permit (an Employment Authorization [EA] in Canada) or become a permanent resident of Canada. To obtain an EA, a Canada job offer validated by the Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) is required.

The Canada work permit, also known as employment authorization or EA, requires the employer to show that the job could not be filled with a Canadian. This means that the employer has to prove that a Canadian citizen or resident could not fill the position. The validation process is complicated unless you are a software or IT professional, or another skilled person as prescribed by Canada Immigration.

A Canada work permit can only be issued for a temporary position. In order to reside and work permanently in Canada, the applicant must qualify as a skilled worker.

To become a permanent resident of Canada and obtain a migration visa and Canada work permit, applicants need to accumulate a certain number of points before they are considered. Points are awarded based on employability, education, skills, age and language skills.

Options include permanent migration under one of four possibilities:

  • A Family Migration: the applicant has a relative in Canada willing to sponsor him or her.
  • Skilled Migration: the applicant must have skills or special abilities that will contribute to the economy of Canada. This visa is based on education, English or French language ability, work experience, health, marital status and finance.
  • Job Sponsored Migration: when a company sponsors the applicant’s move. Sponsorship by a company is the quickest way to immigrate.
  • Refugee, humanitarian and special assistance programs.

Technically, you are not allowed to enter Canada to look for work.
