Job Search Tips for Job Seekers

By arriving on this page, you are taking the first proactive step in the search for jobs, careers or employment.

Because we know that the job search is a full-time job without pay, we made this stressful task as easy as possible for you. As the result, you may find below our selection of the best resources and services available today for job seekers.

International Job Search

International job seekers should be prepared to take the foreign country as it is with all of its difficulties, contradictions and challenges.

Most visits to the foreign country are trouble-free but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate international terrorist attacks, which could be against Western interests and civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners like restaurants, hotels, clubs and shopping areas. In recent years, many national authorities have carried out a number of investigations and operations against terrorist networks.
You should exercise a high level of security awareness and monitor local news broadcasts and consular messages. Ensure that your travel documents and visas are current and valid and secured in a safe place. Carry a photocopy of your travel documents in lieu of the originals. Maintain a low profile, vary times and routes of travel, and exercise caution while driving. Making local contacts quickly and seeking support from other expatriates will greatly increase your comfort and safety.

The applicants should be familiar with basic information related to the country in which they are seeking employment. Knowledge of geographical and economic data could be crucial during a job interview. Be aware of the regional differences in cultural manners, dress code and language, if you want to apply successfully for an international job.

In recent years it becomes increasingly popular to join the LinkedIn or Facebook social networking websites for professionals, where you may search for jobs and have your keyword-optimized, rich content profile with your current resume. Hiring managers use them more frequently to consult your profile and supplement or check against the resume you send along. If you do not have an account, create one and include your social media link(s) on your resume.
However, you should manage your online presence. Eliminate any photos and statements that could reflect poorly on you. From an employer’s point of view, someone who emphasizes partying on a social networking site is not focused on jobs and those who post complaints about work or colleagues are less desirable candidates. Online resume should not include sensitive information as they could show a lack of respect for confidentiality and discretion.

Foreign Languages in International Job Search

There are many positions in foreign countries that require professionals who are fluent in English and who can speak the local language at the business conversation level. Although the local language is not essential, a sound working knowledge of the language is considered necessary to cope with daily office life and life outside work.

There are exceptions within some areas i.e. IT industry, tourism industry. Not speaking the local language will not necessarily hurt you.

Usually, write your international CV or resume in the local language to local companies and in English or another foreign language to international ones.
