Senior Software Engineer - Network Automation

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Network Automation Unit in Sydney, Australia. This is a software-first role focused on turning complex network and telecom workflows into reliable internal platforms, automation systems, and test capabilities.

You will work closely with telco teams to understand real operational problems, build a strong technical context, break down ambiguous work, and deliver safely. You will also work in an AI-assisted engineering environment where engineers remain accountable for understanding the problem, reviewing outputs critically, and validating the result end-to-end.


About the Role

• Work directly with telco teams to understand problems, workflows, and constraints 
• Investigate systems, repos, tickets, and runtime behavior 
• Build reliable knowledge bases that capture how complex systems actually work 
• Design reliable technical solutions for operational and automation problems 
• Break down ambiguous work into clear tickets, execution steps, and validation plans 
• Use AI-assisted workflows to speed up research, implementation, and delivery 
• Review AI-generated code critically for correctness, quality, and production safety 
• Deliver changes to staging and validate them through integration and end-to-end testing 

• Senior-level experience building backend, platform, automation, or internal tooling 
• A software-first mindset and comfort working in operationally complex domains 
• Strong technical judgment, especially when reviewing AI-generated output 
• Experience turning ambiguous problems into structured investigations and executable plans 
• Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure and cloud services
• Working knowledge of Python and TypeScript, so you can review and guide implementation 
• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, for example, GitLab CI 
• Working knowledge of SQL, ideally PostgreSQL 
• Bonus points for telecom or network systems experience
