The Bookkeeping Manager owns day-to-day delivery and quality of client bookkeeping. You’ll lead and coach a team of bookkeepers, ensure monthly closes are completed on-time, and drive consistency in reconciliations, reporting, and client communication. This role partners closely with Operations leadership and serves as an escalation point for complex bookkeeping issues.
Contractors will be required to provide services that align with the following client tasks:
• Team leadership & coaching
o Manage, coach, and develop a team of bookkeepers (workload planning,
training, performance feedback)
o Maintain coverage plans (backup coverage, cross-training) to protect client
continuity
• Client delivery & monthly close
o Oversee monthly bookkeeping execution: transaction coding, reconciliations,
cleanup work, and reporting
o Ensure deadlines are met and work is audit-ready
• Quality control
o Review workpapers and financial reports for accuracy and completeness
o Reduce rework by implementing strong review checklists, templates, and
root-cause fixes
• Client communication & escalations
o Ensure timely, professional client updates and responses
o Act as the escalation point for bookkeeping questions, complex
reconciliations, and process issues
• Process & SOP improvement
o Maintain and improve SOPs/checklists; identify bottlenecks and implement
solutions
o Partner with leadership to improve onboarding/offboarding workflows and
internal standards
• Tools & systems
o Ensure best practices in QuickBooks Online and Xero
o Support clean handoffs, documentation, and secure file practices in a
remote environment
Each engagement is based on a defined scope of work and is governed by an independent contractor agreement. Services must be performed professionally, with adherence to any timelines, guidelines, and deliverables agreed upon in writing.
The Contractor must demonstrate proficiency in the following, depending on the Client’s requirements:
• 5+ years in bookkeeping/accounting roles with hands-on month-end close ownership
• 2+ years leading or reviewing the work of other bookkeepers (formal or informal leadership)
• Strong expertise in QuickBooks Online (required); Xero experience strongly preferred
• Excellent reconciliation skills (bank/credit card/loan accounts; troubleshooting discrepancies)
• Strong written communication (client-facing, professional, clear, and timely)
• Comfortable working in a fully remote environment with structured deadlines and checklists
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a bookkeeping firm / client services environment (multiple clients at once)
• Experience with cleanup/catch-up projects and process standardization
• Advanced certification (CPA/CMA) a plus, not required
- Contracted Hours per Week: 40 Hours
- Scheduled Working Days: Monday through Friday (unless otherwise mutually agreed in writing)
- Daily Working Time: 8am to 5pm EST
Note: The Company will make reasonable efforts to align the Assigned VA’s schedule with the Client’s preferred hours as set forth above. However, availability may vary based on time zones, capacity, and the contracted hours set in this SOW. Any changes must be mutually agreed to in writing through a revised SOW.
- Contractors will operate under a Master Services Agreement and a Statement of Work
- This is not an offer of employment; contractors are not employees of 20four7VA or any client
- All compensation is processed through 20four7VA according to the terms of the engagement
