~2 min readThe Scientist position in Biomarkers & Immunology department will be the technical subject matter expert and lab lead for the histology team, support biobank activities and cross train in molecular biology and other techniques. This entails taking on challenging projects and completing them in a timely manner with focus on excellence and attention to detail. These projects will include (but are not limited to) IHC/ISH/IF assay development and study execution, Visiopharm image analysis app development and data analysis/interpretation, biobank sample repository support and willingness to learn new methodology to support the BI team. The Scientist will be expected to mentor and train junior team members in techniques and methods in which they have expertise. Working closely with diverse groups on cross functional teams, (such as Early-Stage Product Development, Project Management, Clinical Sciences, and Clinical Development) our data deliverables impact important program decisions.
This role will report to the Senior Director of Biomarkers and Immunology and be part of a talented, motivated, and creative team of scientists who are critical for the success of 4DMT’s mission and development of our deep portfolio of targeted genetic medicines. While on-site presence is required to perform laboratory work, a flexible hybrid work schedule can be accommodated when analyzing data and remotely managing partner organizations.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Independent method development of automated ISH/IHC/IF histology biomarker assays
- →Independent sample testing design/execution/interpretation/reporting of diverse histology biomarker studies
- →Visiopharm image analysis app development and execution
- →Development of complex multiplex IF methodology
- →Supporting internal biobiank project by receiving/accessioning, distributing and maintaining samples/inventories
- →Cross-training with and supporting molecular biology and ligand binding assay subject matter experts
- →Effective data summary and presentation to project teams and externally
- →Leadership including cross training BI team members in areas of expertise
- →Integration/participation in cross functional teams
- →Leading and supporting research initiatives such as new technology development and platform improvement projects
- →Writing study reports and manuscripts and presenting results at scientific meetings
- →Maintaining compliance with company Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, and practices
- →Contributing to building a culture that embraces continuous learning, improvement, and innovation and encourages team members to expand their technical skill base and deepen their gene therapy expertise.
Requirements

- Degree in Immunology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or related field
- Master’s degree with 2+ years, bachelor’s with 4+ years or PHD with 1+ years of experience
Experience:
- Immunohistochemistry automated assay development
- In situ hybridization automated assay development
- Experience in design and execution of complex image analysis using Visiopharm software
- Experience/troubleshooting common histology techniques (microtomy, grossing, embedding, H&E staining, special stains, pathology/anatomy)
- Proficiency with automated slide scanning and digital slide inventory programs
- Familiarity with CAP/CLIA standards for pathology labs/experiments
- Molecular biology and/or ligand binding assay (ELISA) techniques
- Excellent data summary/presentation skills
- Prior experience with bioanalytical or biomarker assay development is strongly preferred
- Successfully demonstrated ability to work independently in designing, developing, and executing new assay methods
- Successfully demonstrated ability to conduct research with strong attention to detail and rigorously analyze and interpret data
- Ability to multi-task and support more than one project simultaneously
- Highly organized and motivated; strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong work ethic, flexibility, and cooperative can-do attitude
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team-based environment; supportive of multiple viewpoints and approaches
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral) with demonstrated ability to present ideas, information and data effectively via one-on-one discussions, team meetings, and external partnership interactions
- Understanding and knowledge of key scientific software programs (including Microsoft Office, JMP or Prism, Adobe Photoshop).
Travel: <5%
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, lifting, twisting, ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as lab coat, goggles/glasses, and nitrile gloves
- Flexible work schedule allowing productive remote work 2+ days per week
Base salary compensation range: $131,000 - $143,000
Please note, the base salary compensation range and actual salary offered to the final candidate depends on various factors: candidate’s geographical location, relevant work experience, skills, and years of experience.
