Responsibilities

  • ​​Strategically ensures effective implementation of public safety/security services, strategies, policies, procedures and programs.​ 
  • ​​Ensures public safety/security programs are consistently applied across Advocate Health, aligned with Public Safety best practices and support organizational strategies.  
  • ​​Provides leadership for sites situated across multiple states and actively participates in interdepartmental collaborative situations that have public safety/security involvement and implications.
  • ​​Ensures facilities and properties are inspected and surveyed for vulnerabilities and hazards and works to mitigate the vulnerabilities and application of sound public safety/security practices in a collaborative manner.  
  • ​​Ensures local, state and federal regulations and voluntary compliance programs, i.e. Joint Commission, in the area of public safety/security are monitored evaluated and addressed.  
  • ​​Analyzes data from internal sources such as workplace violence (WPV) reports, incident reports, audits and inspections as well as external sources such as crime data and develop strategies and tactics to reduce risk to the organization.​ 
  • ​​Overseas compliance and supports delivery of education and training programs in the areas of public safety/security, threat assessment and management, de-escalation and injury prevention training for both Public Safety teammates. ​ 
  • ​​Performs human resources responsibilities for teammates which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall teammate engagement. ​ 
  • Develops and proposes operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives. 
  • Communicate to leaders on complicated and sensitive issues to stakeholders, while maintaining an independent opinion, providing recommendations, delivering presentations, and providing reports to various audiences.  

  • A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle. 

  • Master’s Degree (Criminal Justice, Business Management or related field) or 20 years of experience in public safety/security leadership or related field. 

  • ​​10 years of experience in public safety/security leadership or related field. 

  • ​​Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic and tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large organization.​ 
  • ​​Proven ability to develop sound proposals and successful program implementation.​ 
  • ​​Expert level of knowledge in security practices/procedures and related state and federal compliance requirements.​ 
  • ​​Expert knowledge level of state and federal regulations / laws pertaining to safety and accident prevention, fire, security and personal protection.​ 
  • ​​Ability to understand the needs of a diverse population and a larger corporate structure.​ 
  • ​​Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with internal and external strategic decision makers of all levels.​ 
  • ​​Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint or similar products.​ 
  • Excellent ability to provide clear presentations to varied audiences, develop and interpret metrics/key performance indicators on an organizational as well as site level. 
  • Proven ability to perform successfully under time and situational stressor and communicate clearly with teammates and stakeholders at all levels.
