The Environmental & Maintenance Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and compliance of the Company's preventive maintenance program while maintaining adherence to all applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements. This position serves as the primary coordinator for environmental compliance activities, preventive maintenance scheduling, regulatory inspections, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role works closely with Maintenance, Operations, Safety, and Leadership to maximize equipment reliability while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Ensure compliance with all applicable EPA, state, and local environmental regulations.
- →Maintain permits and regulatory documentation such as: crane inspections, hazard storage, air quality, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, distillation, MSDS, spill prevention requirements, etc…
- →Coordinate required environmental inspections and monitoring activities.
- →Prepare and submit environmental reports and regulatory filings.
- →Maintain hazardous waste storage, labeling, and disposal documentation.
- →Coordinate environmental training and awareness initiatives.
- →Serve as the primary point of contact during environmental inspections and audits.
- →Investigate environmental incidents and coordinate corrective actions.
- →Maintain environmental records in accordance with regulatory retention requirements.
- →Develop, administer and maintain the Company's Preventive Maintenance (PM) program.
- →Develop and track preventive maintenance work orders through the CMMS.
- →Monitor PM completion rates and ensure maintenance activities are completed on schedule.
- →Audit completed work orders for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
- →Coordinate equipment inspections and maintenance intervals.
- →Maintain accurate equipment histories, maintenance records, and asset documentation.
- →Identify trends in equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- →Support predictive and reliability-centered maintenance initiatives.
- →Support OSHA, ISO, and other compliance initiatives as assigned.
- →Maintain compliance documentation for internal and external audits.
- →Assist in developing policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- →Monitor corrective actions resulting from inspections, audits, or incident investigations.
- →Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on equipment reliability and regulatory compliance.
- →Track compliance metrics and prepare reports for management.
- →Recommend process improvements to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and minimize environmental risk.
Requirements
~2 min read- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing maintenance, environmental compliance, industrial operations, or a related field.
- Experience administering preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience working with CMMS software preferred.
- Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance preferred.
- Experience supporting OSHA or ISO compliance is a plus.

- Working knowledge of preventive maintenance principles.
- Understanding of EPA, state environmental regulations, and hazardous waste requirements.

- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, regulations, and maintenance documentation.
Maintenance & Environmental Compliance Specialist Work Environment:
This position regularly works throughout a manufacturing facility where exposure to moving machinery, noise, heat, dust, and industrial equipment may occur. Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times while in designated production areas.
