TITLE: ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM COORDINATOR   

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL


Primary Purpose:

The curriculum-coordinator provides guidance and leadership while working with teachers and administrators, in the development, assessment, and implementation of the ABS K-12 curriculum. The objective of this office is to support and raise the quality of teaching-learning and attainment of students throughout the school and to support the development and enhancement of teaching practice of the ABS staff.

 

Responsibilities:


1. Vision and Leadership:

Collaborates with administrators, teachers, and accrediting agencies in the maintenance, assessment, and improvement of an integrated, relevant, and challenging American K-12 curriculum.


2. Interpersonal Relationships

Effectively works with and motivates teachers to complete curriculum tasks.


3. Organizational Management

Organizes and leads curriculum task forces.


4. Fiscal Management

Develops and manages the curriculum-coordinator budget.


5. Communication

Communicates with the school director and principals, current and newly hired teaching staff, as well as the general school community.


6. Professional Development

Demonstrates a commitment to improving his/her skills and that of teaching staff.


7. Other

Performs other tasks as needed

 


Task Inventory


  1. Vision and Leadership

  • Collaborates with the administrators to set and implement new curriculum initiatives

  • Collaborates with the administrators in setting the direction for the professional development of teachers.

  • Collaborates with administrators on assessment and improvement of the current curriculum

  • Works with teachers to improve the current curriculum, student learning goals, student assessment, and evaluation.

  • Works with teachers in routine maintenance, effective delivery, and assessment of current curriculum

  • Coordinate updating of or addition to, learner support material/resources

  • Ensures that accreditation standards for curriculum are maintained and develops plans to address needed improvements in curriculum documented by accreditation agencies.

  1. Interpersonal Relationships

  • Uses strong social skills to work in group settings dealing with curriculum tasks.

  • Effectively works with and motivates teachers to complete curriculum tasks.

  1. Organizational Management

  • Organizes and leads curriculum task forces as needed.

  • Plays an active role in helping to implement the school improvement plan

  1. Fiscal Management

Develops and supervises the use of a curriculum-coordinator budget.


  1. Communication

  • Effectively initiates and maintains two-way communication between administrators and teachers on curriculum issues.

  • Ensures that all school curriculum documentation, either as hard copy or web-based materials, is current and easily available

  • Provides curriculum support and resources for newly hired staff.

  • Consistently communicates with the school director/principals.

  1. Professional Development

  • Emphasize good instructional design.

  • Collaborate with principals on the design and delivery of professional development workshops/ days.

 

Qualifications:


  • A/M.S.

  • Experience in cooperative learning strategies

  • Knowledge and experience of the accreditation process.

  • Previous teaching and/or administrative experience in an International School.

  • 5 years of practical teaching experience.

  • Proven administrative skills and leadership abilities.

  • Strong organization and communication skills.

  • Ability to facilitate collaboration across school divisions and content areas.
