Position: 2026 Summer School Nurse (Oak Elementary School Campus - English and/or French Speakers)
Overview
This person is responsible for providing specialized healthcare services for school staff and students in order to maintain a safe and healthy school environment as well as promoting the value of wellness in the school and community.
Status of Position
This is a full-time summer position with Académie Lafayette. This position will have orientation on June 5th, with summer school running from June 8th - July 8th. There is no summer school, and no pay, on June 19th and July 3rd. This is an exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reporting
The nurse reports to their campus/building principal.
Responsibilities
Job Duties include:
- Providing confidential health services and advice for individual children.
- Supporting, advising, counseling (with the support of the social worker), and referring children experiencing mental health problems, such as depression.
- Coordinating immunization programs and documentation.
- Supporting vulnerable children by working alongside teachers, social workers, education welfare officers and other professionals.
- Producing individual health plans for children with disabilities or long-term conditions; participate in IEP team and 504 plans.
- Providing training for school-based staff to support children with health care needs such as asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy.
- Providing advice for parents and school staff on childhood illnesses and the management and control of infections diseases.
- Performing health screenings as needed.
- Addressing issues of mental health and well-being, including depression and bullying.
- Handling matters of sexual health and relationships as well as teenage pregnancy.
- Organizing, communicating, monitoring and reviewing fire, tornado, intruder and other emergency preparedness drills.
- Collecting and reporting summer data on student visits and injuries.
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications
- R.N. or L.P.N. with a current Missouri license.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and respond to emergencies.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and with a high level of efficiency.
Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands
- Needs to move about within the campus as necessary.
- Occasional standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
- Occasionally requires lifting up to 25 pounds.
Attendance
Your attendance is vital for the success of our program. Advise your building director of any known absences as soon as possible. Please try to give a minimum of a 12 hour notice if you will be unable to make your next scheduled work day.
Other Requirements
- Must pass a state and federal fingerprint background check through MACHS.
- Must be registered, or get registered, with the Family Care Safety Registry.
- Please note that we are not able to offer a visa for summer school positions.
