Position
The Azure Architect designs and optimizes Accuity's Azure-based data architecture to support scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms across clinical, analytics, and revenue cycle solutions.
This hands-on technical leadership role establishes architecture standards for storage, databases, performance, resilience, and governance while partnering closely with data engineering, DevOps, AI/ML, and application teams to deliver cost-effective and compliant cloud platforms.
Responsibilities
Azure Data Architecture & Storage Strategy
Design scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures across Azure services.
Define standards for relational, semi-structured, and unstructured data storage using Azure SQL, Managed Instance, ADLS Gen2, Cosmos DB, and Synapse Analytics.
Establish data tiering, partitioning, retention, and lifecycle management strategies.
Optimize storage performance and cost through indexing, caching, and workload distribution.
Database Design, Performance & Resilience
Architect and maintain database platforms that support high availability, disaster recovery, and long-term scalability.
Implement backup, restore, geo-replication, and failover strategies.
Monitor and tune database performance through query optimization, indexing, and resource management.
Lead proactive maintenance planning for patching, upgrades, and capacity management.
Operations, Reliability & Observability
Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability across Azure data platforms.
Define SLAs and SLOs for data availability, latency, and performance.
Lead root cause analysis and resolution for data platform incidents.
Automate provisioning, scaling, and maintenance workflows in alignment with SRE principles.
Security, Compliance & Governance
Design and enforce data security controls including encryption, role-based access, network isolation, auditing, and lineage tracking.
Ensure alignment with HIPAA and internal governance requirements.
Partner with security and compliance stakeholders to support audit readiness and risk mitigation.
DevOps Integration & Cross-Functional Leadership
Integrate database and storage solutions into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and infrastructure as code tools such as Bicep, ARM, or Terraform.
Support data engineering workflows and pipeline orchestration across Azure-native tooling.
Serve as the subject matter expert for Azure data architecture and provide guidance on scalability, performance, and cost optimization.
Conduct architecture reviews and influence long-term cloud and data platform strategy.

Qualifications
Education and Credentials
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required.
Microsoft Azure architecture or data platform certification preferred.
Experience
8+ years of experience in data architecture, database engineering, or cloud architecture.
Proven experience designing and managing enterprise-scale data systems in Azure.
Deep expertise in relational and NoSQL database technologies, including Azure SQL and Cosmos DB.
Strong experience with distributed data systems, performance tuning, indexing, and database optimization.
Proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting or programming language such as Python or PowerShell.
Strong understanding of cloud networking, security, identity management, and infrastructure automation.
Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, data warehousing, or lakehouse architectures preferred.
Experience supporting healthcare technology, regulated data environments, or AI/ML data pipelines preferred.
