Working Site Supervisor

Why Join Us?
Tired of being away from home, working evenings and weekends, or always being on call with no real work-life balance? It’s time for a change. At Ackard, our projects run Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM—no evenings, no weekends, and no on-call stress. You’ll get all statutory holidays off, plus we shut down for about a week over Christmas so you can truly unplug. We’re a close-knit team that values family, collaboration, and balance. If you’re looking for a place to put down roots, grow your skills, and enjoy coming to work each day, you’ll feel right at home here. Ackard has been a trusted name in Edmonton for over 40 years, known for quality craftsmanship and homes that truly stand out.

What You’ll Do

A Working Site Supervisor is an experienced Journeyperson Carpenter who possesses the technical skills required to complete project work and, through practical experience and coaching, is developing the leadership skills necessary to plan, prepare, coordinate, and lead one or more projects.

As a Working Site Supervisor, you are primarily responsible for supervising the safety, quality, and productivity of each project.

Your responsibilities will include:

Planning

  • Review project scope and plans prior to the start of the job and ask clarifying questions as needed.
  • Book and facilitate a pre-construction meeting with all necessary parties to ensure a full understanding of the scope and plan.
  • Conduct a site consultation prior to job start.
  • Create and maintain the project schedule, booking trade partners and marking tasks as “Requested” or “Confirmed.” Keep the schedule up to date and mark tasks as “Complete” when finished.
  • Review the production schedule prior to the start of the job and consult with the Project Manager as needed.
  • Create a list of required tools and materials; arrange for pickup and/or delivery.
  • Continuously assess material, tool, and labour requirements throughout the project and communicate any shortfalls or changes in advance of need.
  • Create and submit a forecast sheet every Friday for tasks requiring two (2) or more days of manpower and upload it to the daily log.

Production

  • Contribute directly to production by working alongside the crew as required; code time in Buildertrend (BT) to the appropriate task (e.g., 900.4 Framing).
  • Lead and mentor Ackard carpentry apprentices on site.
  • Lead and collaborate with Ackard Journeyman Carpenters on site.
  • Create a weekly forecast in collaboration with the Lead.
  • Meet sub-trades on site at the start of their work, provide direction, and answer questions.
  • Conduct a minimum of two (2) site visits per week, per project.

Communication

  • Send a “First Contact” email to the client within 15 days of contract signing, introducing yourself and the Project Coordinator.
  • Utilize Ackard programs and technology to provide daily project updates.
  • Review and respond to emails and texts daily.
  • Maintain ongoing, timely communication with the Project Manager (digital, phone, and/or in person).
  • Communicate with the client on site as needed, ensuring you do not offer work or suggestions outside the approved scope without prior approval from the Project Manager or Construction Manager.
  • Complete all HR-related tasks in a timely manner (check-ins, reviews, document acknowledgements, etc.).
  • Participate in office and site meetings as required.
  • Participate in post-job reviews to identify successes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate openly with the Project Manager and Construction Manager regarding what is working and where support is needed; identify training gaps and actively participate in your development.

Health & Safety

  • Lead by example by consistently following all health and safety protocols.
  • Advise the Project Manager of any health and safety concerns not mitigated through engineering controls (e.g., guards), policies, or PPE.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, or near-misses to the Project Manager as soon as reasonably possible
  • Promote and enforce health and safety standards on site with crew members, sub-trades, and clients.
