The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the facility operates in a safe and secure manner and in compliance with all company, local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. This role champions Health & Safety excellence across the site by leading programs, processes, and initiatives that drive a strong safety culture, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement. The Health & Safety Manager serves as a trusted advisor to site leadership and provides technical safety expertise across all levels of the organization. This is a working leader position with direct reports and reports to the Plant Manager. The role is responsible for leading the site's Health & Safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives.   Essential Responsibilities Develop and implement tools, programs, and initiatives that increase safety awareness, engagement, accountability, and capability across the site. Lead by example and actively coach, mentor, and influence employees and contractors to strengthen the site's safety culture and commitment to safe work practices. Lead and develop Safety team and other assigned personnel through coaching, performance management, and professional development. Monitor, analyze, and communicate Health & Safety performance metrics to identify trends, drive continuous improvement, and achieve site objectives. Partner with site leadership to establish safety goals, priorities, and strategies that support business objectives and operational excellence. Ensure compliance with company policies, standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA requirements. Support the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of safety training programs for employees and contractors. Provide technical safety expertise and consultation for facility projects, process changes, equipment installations, and operational improvements. Coordinate site health and safety assessments, including industrial hygiene monitoring, ergonomic evaluations, insurance reviews, and internal audits. Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are identified, implemented, verified, and sustained. Ensure OSHA recordable, lost-time, and other required safety metrics are accurately reported and maintained. Lead Safety Committee activities and actively participate as a member of the site leadership team. Support the site's Responsible Care® 14001 / ISO management systems, including audits, corrective actions, management reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support compliance assurance activities and internal auditing processes to verify adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements. Support management of change, including risk assessments, safety reviews, and implementation of new initiatives.  Share best practices across the organization and actively contribute to corporate safety initiatives. Ensure contractor safety programs are effectively implemented and that contractor work activities meet site safety expectations and requirements. Develop, maintain, and periodically test the site's Emergency Response Plan and Business Continuity Plan. Ensure site security programs and related compliance requirements are maintained in accordance with company standards. Maintain required records and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory retention requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned.   Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience. Minimum 7+ years of progressive Health & Safety experience in a manufacturing, chemical, petrochemical, utility, pharmaceutical, energy, or heavy industrial environment. Minimum 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or people-management experience. Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational safety management systems.   Preferred Qualifications Experience in chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, energy, or other highly regulated industrial environments. Experience working in a Process Safety Management site   Prior experience working in a MARSEC or similarly highly regulated environment Demonstrated success leading safety culture transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action management. Experience supporting Responsible Care® 14001, RC14001, ISO management systems, or similar compliance frameworks. Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and influencing skills. Strong technical writing skills, including policies, procedures, standards, and training materials. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other relevant professional certification preferred.
