The EHS Technician takes direction from the EHS site leader and coordinates all EHS activities for a particular area or Business Unit, ensuring that compliance is maintained with AFL and regulatory requirements. The incumbent evaluates and recommends solutions to EHS-related problems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety processes and procedures within assigned location(s)
  • Conducts investigations into associates’ hazard reporting, suggestions and complaints
  • Periodically audits corrective action implementation to ensure status is maintained
  • Develops procedures and training for compliance with relevant OSHA Standards and company

EHS policies

  • Creates, or develops training materials
  • Assigns appropriate employee training and tracks completion
  • Communicates completion requirements to affected supervisors
  • Conducts or coordinates live event EHS training for affected personnel
  • Manages recordkeeping, case management and documentation for all EHS incidents
  • Assigns appropriate corrective actions to responsible stakeholders
  • Periodically audits corrective action implementation to ensure status is maintained
  • Deploys AFL corporate safety initiatives
  • Coordinates and mentors site safety committees
  • Participates in management meetings and initiatives
  • Tracks and monitors key safety and environmental metrics

  • Assists tracking as directed by EHS Specialist

  • Maintains and reports location(s) environmental metrics – ISO 14001 objectives:
    • recycling/reuse, waste, and utility data
  • Manages location(s) EHS Pillar/Hazard Hound processes including corrective action completion reports
  • Manages location(s) hazardous waste collection, storage and disposal
  • Oversees site compliance management processes
    • Conducts compliance audits
    • Coordinate sampling activities and maintains related environmental data
    • Records and assigns corrective actions based on audit results
    • Communicates findings and corrective actions to location management
  • Problem Solving – Excellent ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and provide suggestions for improvements or corrective actions
  • Interpersonal skills – Communicates and works well with all levels of the organization; develops relationships with site to ensure their involvement and commitment
  • Initiative – Keeps abreast of changing regulations and procedures; develops new and innovative methods for implementing EHS processes
  • Autonomous – Able to set priorities while working under limited supervision
  • Accommodating – Treats all associates as customers; shows a high degree of empathy for employee concerns and complaints

Requirements

  • 1-3 years manufacturing experience
  • Requires general personal computer skills as well as the ability to use Microsoft Operating System and specialized EHS systems
  • Possess the ability to conduct training groups of employees in a classroom setting with knowledge of adult learner teaching techniques
  • Ability to interface with multiple levels of organization and communicate effectively to reduce or eliminate negative associations with EHS initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence co-workers for outcomes.
  • Has participated and been a member or leader in an EHS Pillar or Subcommittee team
  • Demonstrated reliability on attendance, quality, EHS, delivery
  • 100% onsite role
  • Ability to work Modified schedule based on site needs
  • Normal office and manufacturing facility environment
  • High school diploma
  • 2-year associates degree preferred
