The EHS Training Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving AFL U.S. Services' Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) training strategy. This role ensures employees, supervisors, managers, and subcontractor partners receive consistent, compliant, and effective training that supports AFL's commitment to a hazard-free workplace.

The position serves as the enterprise leader for EHSS learning and development, overseeing curriculum design, training delivery methods, competency validation, regulatory compliance, and learning management systems. The Corporate EHS Training Manager partners closely with Operations, Human Resources, Talent Development, and EHSS leadership to build a safety-first culture through education, engagement, and continuous improvement.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the U.S. Services EHSS training strategy.
  • Design standardized learning pathways for field technicians, supervisors, managers, and subcontractors.
  • Establish training requirements for new hire orientation, annual refresher training, remedial training, leadership development, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Create scalable training programs supporting Wireless, Fiber, Broadband, Data Center, and Corporate Operations.
  • Ensure alignment with AFL policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop instructor-led, virtual, field-based, and e-learning training programs.
  • Create and maintain training materials, presentations, videos, assessments, job aids, and field guides.
  • Standardize competency evaluations and skills verification processes.
  • Coordinate train-the-trainer programs for EHSS Advisors and Operations leaders.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through testing, observation, audits, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA, customer-specific, and state regulatory training requirements.
  • Maintain training matrices and qualification requirements by position.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update training programs accordingly.
  • Support OSHA inspections, customer audits, and compliance reviews related to workforce qualifications.
  • Serve as the system owner for EHSS training records and tracking systems.
  • Develop dashboards and reports measuring completion rates, competency levels, overdue training, and program effectiveness.
  • Analyze incident trends, audit findings, and corrective actions to identify training needs.
  • Provide training metrics and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Partner with Operations leaders to identify skill gaps and develop targeted training plans.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Talent Acquisition to improve onboarding and workforce readiness.
  • Support acquisition integration efforts by standardizing training programs across newly acquired organizations.
  • Promote AFL's EHSS values and safety culture through visible leadership and engagement.

Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Normal office environment.
  • General hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.  But ability to provide support during and outside regular business hours is required.
  • Up to 50% travel may be required.
  • Must be able to work in the United States.
  • 7+ years of EHSS experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, manufacturing, or field services environments.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and adult learning principles.
  • Experience managing training records, certifications, and learning management systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% nationally.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Education, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CIT, or similar professional certification.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications, broadband, wireless, fiber, or data center operations.
  • Experience implementing enterprise learning or training management systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
