Responsibilities

  1. Corporate EHSS Program Leadership & Client Support
  2. Serve as the enterprise owner for AFL’s corporate EHSS programs, frameworks, and supporting processes, with responsibility for consistent application and practical usability across business units.
  3. Verify corporate programs align with AFL’s risk profile, operational realities, and value‑based safety culture—not just regulatory expectations.
  4. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders by translating EHSS standards into clear expectations that support real decision‑making and risk ownership.
  5. Periodically evaluate corporate programs and recommend updates based on risk trends, field feedback, audits, and industry best practices.

EHSS Management Systems Ownership (ISO 45001)

  1. Own governance of AFL’s EHSS management systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 structure, documentation, and integration into business processes.
  2. Partner with site, BU, and functional leaders to confirm management system elements are understood, applied, and embedded—not treated as audit artifacts.
  3. Support internal and external audits with a focus on learning, system maturity, and continuous improvement rather than compliance‑only outcomes.
  4. Reinforce system effectiveness by translating audit findings, risks, and gaps into practical improvement actions. Confirm system effectiveness through metrics, verification activities, and leadership feedback.
  5. Contractor Safety Management – Enterprise Owner
  6. Build and own and evolve the enterprise contractor safety management framework, including prequalification, onboarding, expectations, and performance verification.
  7. Partner with procurement, legal, operations, and EHSS teams to embed contractor safety requirements into sourcing and contracting processes.
  8. Develop tools, guidance, and audit protocols for contractor oversight across regions.
  9. Analyze contractor performance trends and lead improvement initiatives based on risk and data.

EHSS Center of Excellence & Project Management

  1. Serve as the EHSS project management COE, responsible for planning, tracking, and delivering enterprise‑level EHSS initiatives.
  2. Directly manage one EHSS Project Manager, providing prioritization, coaching, and performance oversight.
  3. Establish standard project management practices for EHSS initiatives, including charters, timelines, milestones, and stakeholder engagement.
  4. Coordinate cross‑functional teams to deliver complex, multi‑site or international projects on schedule and within scope.

Corporate EHSS Data, Analytics & Insights

  1. Provide functional leadership for corporate EHSS technology platforms, including system configuration, data integrity, reporting, and continuous improvement.
  2. Partner with IT, HR, and business stakeholders to confirm systems support usability, credible data, and decision‑ready insights.
  3. Guide implementation, enhancement, and governance of systems to support adoption and sustained use across the enterprise.
  4. Evaluate new technologies and tools through a risk‑reduction and behavior‑enablement lens.

Backup Security & EHSS Responsibilities

  1. Provide backup support for selected security and broader EHSS functions as assigned by the VP of EHSS.
  2. Support incident coordination, investigations, or enterprise response activities when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHSS, Engineering, Science, or related field. And/or 7–10+ years of progressive EHSS experience, including corporate, multi‑site, or international responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with EHSS management systems; ISO 45001 experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in contractor safety management and enterprise program development.
  • Proven project management capability across multiple stakeholders and geographies.
  • Advanced proficiency in EHSS data analysis, metrics, and EHS software platforms.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable international safety frameworks.
