Our dairy cooperative is seeking a regular, full-time Machine Operator for our dryer A operation on 2nd shift (3pm-11pm) who will provide for proper drying and particle formation, sampling and testing of products following state and federal government regulation.  Comply with precise American Dairy Products Institute (ADPI) standards regarding particle size distribution, residual moisture content, particle shape of the product and powder specification.  Ensure compliance with state and federal government regulations.  Maintain dryer facilities in a sanitary manner, including Clean in Place (CIP) washing of equipment, and cleaning of walls, floors, ceilings, light fixtures, drains, and other similar environmental areas.

Schedule flexibility, willingness to work overtime, weekends, holiday and rotate shift, as required. At times overtime, weekend work, holiday work, and shift rotation will be mandatory. Pay range:  $29.29/hr. - $31.14/hr. plus 7% shift differential for 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dryer, ensuring that the formation of sprays are successful so that powder specification can be met.
  • Maintain the inlet air filter system to make a quality and sanitary dried dairy product.
  • Maintain the cool air system, containing very high efficiency filters, taking extra precaution so that particles from the condensing areas of the refrigeration equipment cannot infiltrate the product air stream.
  • Consistently examine the inlet and exhaust air sides, the burner chamber and the diffusion housing.
  • Maintain dryer throat and/or any buildup of dirt, burnt/scorched powder or any other material that may have lodged on the diffusion screens.
  • Ensure the nozzle operation is atomizing.
  • Check the process-therm heat recovery system.
  • Maintain the secondary dryer system, the powder sifter system; Cleans in Place the chamber, wet side and process-therm.
  • Responsible for emergency shutdown.
  • Maintain the high-pressure pump and seals.
  • At shift change ensure dryer and operations are in good condition and provide pertinent information to the next operator.
  • Verify that all required documents are filled out properly and are accurate in accordance with Safety and SQF procedures. 
  • Schedule flexibility, willingness to work overtime, weekends, holiday and rotate shift, as required. At times overtime, weekend work, holiday work and shift rotation will be mandatory.
  • Adhere to Company rules, regulations and core values, including Code of Conduct.
  •  Perform all tasks using Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), following the Food Safety and Food Quality requirements of the SQF Program. This includes the requirement to report all safety issues and incidents to a supervisor, or other member of the leadership team, immediately.
  • Maintain GMPs and operate all equipment in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Work safely and efficiently, following all safety requirements including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned.
  • Work effectively in a multi-tasking environment, work independently and as part of a team, work with minimum supervision and ability to interact positively with others at every level of the organization.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Identify and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Handle situations or problems that occur with a high level of professionalism and direction.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma, GED or HiSET.
  • Experience operating machinery in a manufacturing environment is preferred, in the food industry would be a plus.
  • Experience with manufacturing safety requirements, lock-out/tag-out preferred.
  • Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate physical effort. Requires the occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 70 lbs.  Requires the occasional handling and maneuvering of objects weighing more than 100 lbs.
  • Work environment involves exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
