The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing more than 300 heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water heating, and commercial refrigeration manufacturers from all parts of the world, has an opening for a Senior Director, Communications. This role is responsible for overseeing AHRI’s global communications efforts and strategies, serving as a spokesperson for the association, and writing speeches, articles, and other materials for the Board Chairman, incoming Board Chairman, and President/CEO. This individual will report to the VP, Public Affairs.
Responsibilities

· Supervise the Director, Marketing and Brand Management and the Communications Manager
· Serve as chief spokesperson for the association, establishing relationships with reporters at key publications
· Serve as editor of all AHRI publications
· Maintain current knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues important to the association’s membership for the purpose of communicating AHRI’s positions on those issues to individuals and groups within and outside of the association
Requirements
~2 min read· Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field from an accredited college or university
· 10 years of relevant experience in communications
· Three to five years of relevant communications/media experience at an association, on Capitol Hill, in a federal agency, or equivalent
· Minimum three years of experience supervising staff
· Media relations experience a plus, but not required
AHRI offers a full benefits package which includes health insurance, matching contributions to a 401(k) retirement plan, a flexible work schedule, and a friendly work environment. The salary range for this position is $152,800 to $198,160 based upon relevant experience in the role.
The work location for this position is our office in Arlington, VA. Candidates in the Northern Virginia/DC-Metro area will be given preference. Candidates will be required to take a writing assessment during the interview process. Subject to supervisor approval, AHRI employees are eligible for participation in AHRI's alternate workplace program after 90 days of employment and a 90-day appraisal at a level that meets expectations.
