DesignProduct Designer

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. We're Airtasker, the tech company that connects people who need to get things done with those who have the skills to do it. Our mission is to empower people to realise the full value of their skills. This doesn't just apply to those who use our product. It's also for our whole team of go-getters who bring the product to life and deliver impact to our community on a daily basis. Because we believe work (and life) is always better when you truly know and appreciate your strengths and skills.

We're on the hunt for an Associate Product Designer to join our Organic Acquisition team. This is one of the most exciting places to be at Airtasker right now. Organic Acquisition sits at the forefront of how we reach new Customers across AU, UK and US, and the playbook is being rewritten in real time. We're figuring out how Airtasker shows up in AI searches, building an Airtasker MCP so users can get anything done through their favourite AI, designing localised content and page experiences for each of our markets, and finding new ways to surface our community of Taskers so Customers can find exactly who they want.

This role suits someone with hustle, a real love for designing and building, and a strong visual design eye. Your PM will bring you well-defined problems to solve, and your job is to take that brief, run with it creatively, and come back quickly with directions the team can react to. You'll ideate broadly, not just polish one answer, and you'll use AI tools to build and prototype faster than you could by hand.

You'll have a support network of a design team, product managers, your design manager and engineers to help you grow in your craft and your career, delivering work you're genuinely proud of.

Join our team and help shape the future of Airtasker!

Responsibilities

  • Take a defined brief and run with it. Your PM will help define the problem to solve. Your job is to come back quickly with creative directions the team can react to, not just one polished answer.

  • Ideate fast and broadly. Generate many possible approaches using sketches, flows, wireframes, AI-built prototypes and whatever else moves the work forward fastest.

  • Bring a strong visual design eye. Apply solid visual craft and an understanding of UX patterns so what you ship looks and feels right, even on the first pass.

  • Help shape acquisition for an AI-first world. Contribute to how Airtasker appears in AI searches, the Airtasker MCP experience, and the surfaces that connect Customers with Taskers.

  • Design across three markets. Help deliver localised content and page experiences for AU, UK and US, learning the patterns that travel well across all three.

  • Use AI to build and prototype. Actively grow your fluency with AI design and prototyping tools, and use them to explore more directions than you could by hand. No coding background needed, just the curiosity to use AI to get there.

  • Ship and iterate. Where the problem calls for it, get something tangible in front of users early, whether a rough prototype or a thin slice of the live product, and use what you learn to inform the next iteration.

  • Apply the Airtasker Design System. Use it consistently, learn its patterns deeply, and flag gaps or rough edges you notice as you go.

  • Collaborate closely with your PM and engineers. Stay close to what's being built, communicate clearly, and document interactions and visual specs so what ships matches what was designed.

  • Run lightweight research. Help the team validate ideas through quick usability tests, prototype walkthroughs and on-platform observation.

  • Bring your work to the team. Present your work for feedback, ask good questions, and use design reviews to sharpen the solution and grow your craft.

You'll probably have 1-3 years of experience in product design, with a portfolio that shows clear visual craft and a feel for interface patterns. Beyond that, we're looking for:

  • Hustle and a real can-do attitude. You'd rather build something than talk forever about it and never ship.

  • A real love for designing and building. The volume of work energises you, not the other way around.

  • A strong visual design eye and a solid understanding of UX patterns.

  • The ability to ideate quickly across many directions, not just refine one.

  • A genuine hunger to grow your craft through AI, both in the product you ship and in how you work day-to-day.

  • Comfort using AI tools to prototype, or real eagerness to build that comfort fast.

  • Proficient in Figma and comfortable designing for responsive web, and growing in native iOS and Android.

  • Effective collaboration with PMs, engineers, content, product marketing and others.

  • Comfort with feedback. You ask for it, take it well, and use it to sharpen what you ship.

  • Curious about how AI is reshaping how people discover and access services. Familiarity with marketplace dynamics or international markets is helpful, but not required.
