JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Mental Health Coordinator

JOB GOAL: To promote the maximum development of and support to students through therapeutic services that promote students academic and social/emotional success.

REPORTS TO: Chief Student Services Officer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in social science or mental health counseling (or related clinical field)
  • Valid state certification/license
  • Experience in a school setting
  • Experience providing mental health services to children
  • Experience in providing individual, group and family counseling, case management; utilizing community resources
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Passion for serving at-risk students
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of crisis prevention, intervention, and management
  • Ability to establish credibility with all with all constituents, effectively manage sensitive issues, and be comfortable and effective working with all levels of an organization
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals and priorities
  2. Coordinates the school-based mental health program
  3. Develops and facilitates parent programs, classes, and workshops
  4. Provides counseling, referrals, and intervention services to promote students' academic and social/emotional success
  5. Provides crisis intervention to students and families
  6. Works to actively engage students and families in the services and programs offered
  7. Works with students to identify situations, behaviors, and thoughts that interfere with their schooling
  8. Examines social issues that may negatively affect students including peer pressure, bullying, and substance abuse and teachers copying skills
  9. Integrates social emotional learning into the classroom
  10. Assists administrators, counselors, teachers, and others in crisis situations as needed
  11. Serves as liaison for community resources
  12. Makes necessary home visits
  13. Serves on or consults with IEP or 504 team and attends other student/family meetings when requested
  14. Maintains documentation regarding services provided to students/families
  15. Abides by professional Code of Ethics
  16. Assists administrator with overall school needs
  17. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws
  18. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month (240-day) contract

SALARY RANGE: Appropriate placement on current salary schedule

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Board policy
