Anchor Sandblasting and Coatings is seeking an experienced Marine Blaster/Painter to perform abrasive blasting and industrial coating applications in accordance with contract specifications, company standards, and direction from supervision.

The ideal candidate will have strong marine or industrial blasting and painting experience, be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces, and have the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and correct blasting and coating deficiencies. Safety, quality, productivity, and attention to detail are essential to this position.

  • Perform abrasive blasting and coating operations according to contract requirements and company specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with the Blast/Paint Foreman regarding production, quality, and safety issues.
  • Perform various blasting methods and applications.
  • Grind, sand, polish, and prepare surfaces for coating.
  • Operate blast equipment using abrasive-laden compressed air or water to remove scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, dirt, and other contaminants.
  • Apply coatings using conventional and airless spray systems.
  • Apply paint by brush and roller as required.
  • Apply epoxy, polyurethane, high-solids, and other industrial/marine coatings.
  • Perform painting, caulking, and sealing operations.
  • Apply masking materials to protect designated areas during blasting and coating operations.
  • Inspect completed work and identify and correct blast and paint deficiencies.
  • Operate man lifts and aerial boom lifts as required.
  • Work safely at heights, in tanks, and on marine hanging/swing-stage scaffolding.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Wear respirators and other required personal protective equipment.
  • Complete miscellaneous assignments and projects as directed by supervision.

Requirements

  • Must provide and maintain personal blasting gear, including hood and nozzle.
  • Familiarity with marine coating systems and application techniques.
  • Strong understanding of surface preparation and coating requirements.
  • Ability to safely work in confined spaces, tanks, dry docks, graving docks, and elevated work areas.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a production and safety-focused team.
  • Knowledge of abrasive blasting equipment and techniques necessary to achieve SSPC-SP 6 (Commercial Blast) and SSPC-SP 7 (Brush-Off Blast) standards.
  • Ability to set up and operate blast pots/hoppers, compressors, aftercoolers, and related equipment.
  • Experience blasting with copper slag, coal slag, garnet, steel grit, or similar abrasives.
  • Experience setting up and safely using blast hoses, dead-man controls, and breathing-air lines.
  • Ability to operate an aerial boom lift while performing blasting operations.
  • Experience blasting and painting tugs, barges, ships, or other marine structures in dry dock or graving dock environments.
  • Ability to operate, clean, and maintain airless spray equipment.
  • Knowledge of various coating characteristics, application methods, and industry standards.
  • Ability to use wet- and dry-film thickness gauges.
  • Ability to properly wear and work safely while using a respirator.
  • Ability to climb into tanks and other confined areas and work safely on marine hanging/swing-stage scaffolding.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of verifiable experience working in a marine environment.
  • Industrial blasting and coating experience may be considered in lieu of marine experience.
  • Shipyard experience preferred.

This position requires employees to work in demanding marine and industrial environments, including dry docks, graving docks, vessels, tanks, elevated platforms, and hanging/swing-stage scaffolding. The ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, around blasting equipment, and while wearing required respiratory protection and PPE is essential.
