We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Autonomy team. At our company, we specialise in developing tailored software solutions that enable our robots to execute inspection and maintenance tasks with precision and consistency. As Senior Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge, AI-enabled autonomy technologies into our robots, empowering our robotic systems to achieve significant breakthroughs in operational capability. ANYbotics transforms industrial plants in the energy, process, and utility sector by introducing robotics to a wide range of novel applications that so far were beyond reach. Our customers are large asset operators and industrial service providers pioneering the use of robotics technology for inspection and maintenance. Our mobile robot ANYmal uses legs for extreme mobility in complex environments, camera- and LIDAR-based sensing for full autonomy and obstacle avoidance, and AI for high-quality and consistent inspection results. We develop numerous customised hardware systems, including the entire robotic platform, actuators, sensors, inspection payloads, charging systems, and all related ANYbotics electrical hardware.

 
  • Contribute to the technical strategy and design for the autonomy software architecture, ensuring robots act transparently and reliably in complex environments.
  • Lead and develop core robotics algorithms to expand our autonomous operational envelope in challenging conditions.
  • Triage customer issues, recognize trends, and rapidly make our system more resilient to failures seen in the field.
  • Write, deploy, and maintain highly efficient C++ and Python software for the autonomy stack.
  • Serve as a mentor and collaborator, participating in architecture group activities and guiding junior engineers on algorithm design and best practices.
  • Evaluate cutting-edge algorithms and solutions to continuously push the boundaries of autonomous performance and system adaptability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of software performance and manage strategic partnerships with external engineering companies.
  • University degree in engineering or science with a focus on computer science, electrical engineering or robotics
  • A proven track record in robotics engineering-related development projects.
  • Proven experience leading software changes, contributing to technical strategy, and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong understanding of autonomous systems, including: motion planning, state estimation, behaviour‑based control, path planning, mission planning & execution
  • Strong knowledge of embedded Linux systems, including interface to sensors, actuators and peripherals
  • Extensive experience with ROS/ROS2 and a strong understanding of robotics algorithms such as locomotion, SLAM, or perception.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented behaviour, working towards a goal and achieving outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Hands-on experience with advanced autonomy concepts like Reinforcement Learning (RL), probabilistic planning, or deployment of cutting-edge AI/ML models.
  • Knowledge of real‑time systems, distributed computing, and middleware frameworks
  • Sensor fusion experience (LIDAR, RADAR, cameras, IMUs)
  • Knowledge of deep‑learning‑based perception systems
  • Experience using simulation tools such as Gazebo, or Isaac Sim
  • Familiarity with embedded or real‑time systems
