Apex Companies is seeking an Environmental Scientist II (Project Scientist) to support a large-scale construction project in the Berwick, Pennsylvania area. This position will serve as Apex's primary on-site environmental representative, supporting environmental compliance efforts throughout the construction lifecycle of a major industrial development project.

This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional who enjoys working in the field, operating independently, and becoming a key resource on a high-profile, multi-year project. The successful candidate will have the support of Apex's broader environmental team and opportunities for continued growth within the organization.

Candidates should reside within reasonable commuting distance of Berwick, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental compliance inspections on active construction sites.
  • Perform erosion and sediment control inspections.
  • Conduct air emissions monitoring and inspections.
  • Perform Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) inspections.
  • Document findings and prepare inspection reports.
  • Enter inspection data and compliance documentation into project management systems.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders and Apex environmental professionals to address compliance issues.
  • Serve as the primary environmental point of contact for Apex on-site.
  • Support additional environmental compliance activities as project needs evolve.
  • Primarily field-based position located at a construction project site in Berwick, PA.
  • Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
  • Occasional Saturday work may be required based on project demands.
  • Daily site presence is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working on active construction sites or large-scale development projects.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Nice to Have

  • Erosion and Sediment Control certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Qualified Visible Soil Inspector (QVSI) certification.
  • EPA Method 9 Visible Emissions Certification.
  • Experience performing environmental compliance inspections.
  • Knowledge of construction stormwater compliance programs and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Will train and help get certifications for qualified candidates if they do not have them already
