Business Unit Controller

Wij zijn op zoek naar een Business Unit Controller om onze internationaal opererende Global Business Unit te versterken. Je werkt in een internationale projectomgeving waarin financiële resultaten continu worden beïnvloed door lopende projecten, verschillende landen, wet- en regelgeving en uiteenlopende stakeholders. Dat maakt de rol uitdagend: cijfers zijn voortdurend in beweging en vragen om interpretatie en afstemming.

Je houdt grip op de financiële prestaties, maar kijkt vooral naar wat er achter de cijfers zit. Je vertaalt financiële informatie naar inzichten die de business helpen bij het maken van keuzes, zowel op korte als langere termijn. De uitdaging zit in het combineren van financiële beheersing met meedenken en adviseren, vaak onder tijdsdruk en met informatie die nog niet volledig is. Juist daarin maak jij impact.

De verantwoordelijkheden van deze rol zijn onmogelijk samen te vatten in één vacature, maar als we een poging doen, komt het hierop neer:

• Je zorgt voor een correcte maandafsluiting en houdt grip op work in progress, projectresultaten, accruals en voorlopige financiële cijfers. Hiermee leg je de financiële basis onder de business;

• Je levert tijdige en betrouwbare financiële rapportages, zoals P&L’s, projectoverzichten en forecasts, zodat management en stakeholders kunnen sturen op actuele en juiste informatie;

• Je analyseert project- en financiële prestaties, verklaart afwijkingen en maakt risico’s en kansen inzichtelijk voor Sales en Operations;

• Je werkt nauw samen met Sales en Operations aan forecasting en budgettering, met oog voor kwaliteit, onderbouwing en realistische aannames;

• Je treedt op als financieel sparringpartner voor interne en regionale stakeholders, draagt bij aan procesverbeteringen en ondersteunt bij investeringen en ad hoc Finance vraagstukken.

• Een vast dienstverband bij een toonaangevend TIC (Testing, Inspection, and Certification) bedrijf;

• Een salaris tussen € 4.500,- en € 6.500,-, afhankelijk van je kennis en ervaring;

• Een vast 13e maand salaris, uitbetaald in november;

• Maar liefst 40 vakantiedagen per jaar op basis van een fulltime dienstverband;

• De mogelijkheid om hybride te werken (maximaal 2 dagen thuis bij een fulltime dienstverband);

• Een uitstekend pensioenplan, beheerd door PME (Pensioenfonds voor de Metalektro);

We zoeken iemand die zich thuis voelt in een Rotterdamse, transparante organisatie met veel internationale projecten. Onze ideale toekomstige Business Unit Controller heeft:

• Een Bachelor- of Masterdiploma in financiën, accounting of een vergelijkbare richting;

• 5-10 jaar relevante ervaring in zowel Finance, Project- en Business Controlling;

• Is hands-on, zelfstartend en overziet vanuit de details het geheel;

• Ervaring met complexe projectdynamieken en financiële rapportages;

• Vloeiend in zowel Nederlands als Engels (gesproken en geschreven);

• Gevorderde Excel-vaardigheden en bekendheid met ERP-systemen (SAP is een plus).

We are looking for a Business Unit Controller to strengthen our internationally operating Global Business Unit. Within our organization, you will become part of an international project environment where financial results are continuously influenced by ongoing projects, multiple countries, regulations, and a wide range of stakeholders. This makes the role challenging: figures are constantly changing and require interpretation and alignment.

Within this role, you maintain control over financial performance, but more importantly, you look beyond the numbers. You translate financial information into insights that help the business make decisions, both in the short and long term. The challenge lies in combining financial control with proactive thinking and advising, often under time pressure and with information that is not yet complete. That is exactly where you make an impact.

The responsibilities of this role are impossible to capture fully in a single vacancy, but if we had to summarize them, it would come down to this:

• You ensure an accurate month-end closing and maintain control over work in progress, project results, accruals, and preliminary financial figures, providing the financial foundation for the business;

• You deliver timely and reliable financial reporting, including P&Ls, project overviews, and forecasts, enabling management and stakeholders to make decisions based on accurate and up-to-date information;

• You analyse project and financial performance, explain variances, and identify risks and opportunities for Sales and Operations;

• You work closely with Sales and Operations on forecasting and budgeting, with a strong focus on quality, substantiation, and realistic assumptions;

• You act as a financial sparring partner for internal and regional stakeholders, contribute to process improvements, and support investment cases and ad hoc Finance-related matters.

We are looking for someone who feels at home in a transparent Rotterdam-based organization with many international projects. Our ideal future Business Unit Controller has:

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field;

• 5 - 10 years of relevant experience in Finance, Project Controlling, and Business Controlling;

• A hands-on and self-starting mindset, with the ability to see the bigger picture while working in detail;

• Experience with complex project dynamics and financial reporting;

• Fluency in both Dutch and English, written and spoken;

• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems (SAP is a plus).
