We're Hiring! 

 We are now accepting applications for Full-Time Specialized Care Youth Workers to provide support, supervision and nurturing to children and youth living in our staffed resources located in Kelowna BC.


Hours / Schedule:

 Full-Time / Permanent 

40-hours per week, based on a rotating schedule as defined below:

  • Each shift is 8-hours long. 
  • Each 5-day rotation will alternate between morning and afternoon shifts, and will include weekdays weekends, and statutory holidays as scheduled. 
  • You will work 5 days on / two days off; then 5 days on / three days off.

 

These services are based out of the Specialized Care homes. While primarily assigned to one home, SCYW’s are required to work at other resources as program needs dictate.  

 

Responsibilities:

Youth Workers will:

  • Provide for the physical care and emotional nurturing of children and youth living in the program.  
  • Provide therapeutic support, supervision, and mentorship to support clients to develop healthy lifestyles, and positive behaviours.


Preferred Education and Experience: 

 A degree, diploma or certificate in one of the following disciplines is required:

  • Social Work
  • Human Service Worker
  • Child and Youth Care
  • Community Support Worker
  • Health Care Aide


To be successful in your role you'll also need to: 

  • Be well-versed in trauma-informed care       
  • Be skilled at establishing trusting relationships with children, youth, and families / caregivers.·       
  • Be skilled at establishing trusting relationships with youth, and their families.·       
  • Have knowledge of and experience with conflict resolution and stress de-briefing techniques.·       
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Function effectively both independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Have excellent communication and coaching skills.
  • Have a strong understanding of strengths-based systems and attachment-based support.
  • Have experience in the management of at-risk behaviours.

  • Must undergo a screening process, including MCFD-HUB Centralized Screening / Prior Contact checks. 

Please be aware that the screening process for this position often results in significant delays for applicants who are currently living, or who have previously lived in Alberta, Ontario or internationally. 


Wage / Benefits:

$27.75 - $30.00 per hour based on relevant experience and education.


Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions; as well as accrued vacation and sick time at 5.8% - above BC Employment Standards!
