About the Role
Arctic Kingdom is seeking a hands-on Finance Director to lead the company’s financial operations, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls across its tourism, lodge, expedition, and operational divisions.
The Finance Director will play a key leadership role in driving operational efficiency, cash flow management, risk management, internal controls and long-term financial sustainability in a unique Arctic operating environment. This role requires a strong combination of technical accounting expertise, operational finance experience, leadership capability, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and entrepreneurial setting.
What You’ll Do:
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Prepare the books for audit and consolidation.
- Coordinate annual audits and work with external auditors.
- Implement strong internal controls and policies.
- Oversee full-cycle accounting operations and lead the month-end and year-end close process.
- Generate monthly financial statements and analysis.
- Report monthly financial results to senior leadership, provide variance analysis and insights on risks and opportunities.
ERP and Systems Implementation
- Lead the evaluation, selection, implementation, and optimization of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and financial management systems.
- Act as the primary business lead for ERP implementation projects, coordinating with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and software vendors.
- Analyze current financial and operational workflows to identify process improvement opportunities and system requirements.
- Oversee data migration, chart of accounts design, system configuration, testing, and user acceptance processes.
- Develop standardized financial processes, controls, and reporting structures across departments and operational entities.
- Ensure ERP systems support multi-entity operations, inventory management, project tracking, procurement, payroll integration, and operational reporting needs.
- Establish reporting dashboards and KPIs to improve operational visibility and decision-making.
- Lead change management initiatives, including staff training, documentation, and adoption of new systems and workflows.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance within financial systems.
- Continuously evaluate and improve financial technologies, automation opportunities, and reporting capabilities.
Risk Management & Governance
- Develop and maintain enterprise risk management frameworks to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic risks.
- Monitor organizational exposure related to cash flow, seasonality, foreign exchange, supply chain disruptions, remote operations, and business continuity.
- Oversee insurance programs and coordinate policy renewals, claims management, and risk assessments with brokers and insurers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, employment, and regulatory requirements across all operating jurisdictions.
- Establish and maintain internal controls, financial policies, delegation authorities, and approval processes to safeguard company assets.
- Lead financial risk analysis related to capital investments, partnerships, contracts, and expansion initiatives.
- Support development and implementation of crisis management, contingency planning, and operational continuity procedures.
- Work closely with operational leadership to evaluate safety, contractual, reputational, and operational risks associated with Arctic tourism and expedition activities.
- Provide regular risk reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Promote a culture of accountability, compliance, ethical conduct, and proactive risk awareness across the organization.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead finance managers/financial business partners
- Establish efficient workflows and accountability systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, sales, marketing HR, and logistics teams.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support senior leadership with strategic planning, operational analysis, and special projects.
- Participate in senior management meetings and contribute to organizational decision-making.
- Develop and maintain financial and operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Negotiate and manage relationships with banks, lenders, insurers, vendors, and external service providers.
- Support contract review and financial evaluation of major supplier, partner, and customer agreements.
- Assist with grant applications, government reporting, and funding compliance where applicable.
- Oversee corporate filings, licensing requirements, and annual compliance obligations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, automation, and scalability.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, or new business initiatives as required.
- Ensure proper records management, document retention, and financial documentation practices.
- Collaborate with Human Resources on compensation planning, workforce budgeting, and payroll governance.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to finance team members
- Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and seniority of the role.
What You Bring:
- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
- Experience in tourism, hospitality, aviation, logistics, remote operations, or seasonal businesses considered a strong asset.
- Experience managing full accounting cycle and audits
- Quickbooks knowledge
- ERP implementation experience
- Risk management experience, specifically business insurance
