Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Design, implement, operate, and maintain geospatial databases and data storage solutions.
- →Monitor database performance, capacity, and availability to ensure optimal system functionality.
- →Configure and manage geodatabases, including schema design, data models, and metadata structures.
- →Support data integration, ingestion, and transformation across geospatial systems.
- →Implement database security, access controls, and data protection measures.
- →Collaborate with system, software, and security teams to configure hardware and software environments.
- →Develop and maintain scripts and automation for database maintenance, monitoring, and optimization.
- →Support backup, recovery, redundancy, and disaster recovery processes.
- →Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, performance bottlenecks, and data inconsistencies.
- →Maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, and processes.
- →Ensure compliance with DHS standards, data policies, and system requirements.
Requirements:
- →Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- →7+ years of experience managing and maintaining geospatial or database systems.
- →Experience designing, implementing, and managing geodatabases.
- →Experience with database management systems (DBMS) and data architecture.
- →Experience monitoring database performance and implementing optimization strategies.
- →Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data workflows.
- →Strong understanding of database security, access controls, and data protection.
- →Experience with scripting or automation for database maintenance (e.g., Python, SQL).
- →Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- →Ability to work collaboratively across technical teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- →Experience supporting DHS or other federal government programs.
- →Familiarity with Esri geospatial platforms and enterprise GIS environments.
- →Experience working with cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., AWS S3).
- →Experience with data federation, REST services, and system integration.
- →Familiarity with metadata standards and geospatial data lifecycle management.
