About the Role

  • Explorers Academy is a daycare center with a goal to provide a safe environment for children to discover the world around them through play. Staff of Explorers Academy will be CPR certified, trained in Conscious Discipline, and trauma informed through TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention). TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. Staff must abide by the Arkansas Minimum Licensing Requirements for Childcare Centers published by the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Childcare and Early Childhood Education Childcare Licensing Unit. The Assistant Teacher will work as part of a team to implement these principles throughout the program.
  • This is a PART-TIME position working approximately 20 hours per week with the possibility of more hours periodically when additional coverage is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assistant Teachers must be at least 18 years of age. Job specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

    1.         Abides by ABCFM mission, vision, core values, and core competencies. Demonstrates Christlike character.
    2.         Diligently supervises children. 
    3.         Willingly helps children with hygiene needs like diaper changes, using the bathroom, cleaning after accidents, dressing, handwashing, etc.
    4.         Supports the teacher and works with a helpful attitude. Assists teacher with lesson plans, gathering materials, and implementing activities. Avoids activities or experiences that may be damaging to the children’s self-esteem and positive self-image.
    5.         Encourages the students to learn appropriate behaviors and social skills by modeling them.
    6.         Consistently uses Conscious Discipline principles to manage behaviors.
    7.         Assists with and closely monitors feeding and mealtimes.
    8.         Maintains the correct number of work hours and documents hours correctly each week.
    9.         Communicates consistently with parents and guardians by greeting them warmly and exchanging information that promotes continuity between Explorers Academy and the
    child’s home. Works well with a diverse population.
    10.       Works well with other staff members and maintains a team approach. Should any issue arise every effort to resolve the issue promptly and appropriately is used, including reporting to the supervisor for assistance as needed.
    11.       Follows cleaning assignments diligently.
    12.       Follows personal schedule and classroom schedule. This means consistently being in the assigned location at the assigned time.
    13.       Complies with policies from the Employee Handbook, Team Member Handbook, and the Parent Handbook as well as Minimum Childcare Licensing Standards and Better Beginnings requirements.
    14.       Completes training within the first 90 days of hire and maintains required annual professional development hours and certifications. Maintains PDR with completed trainings.
    15.       Performs other duties as assigned.
