Most of what makes American healthcare expensive isn’t medical care. It’s the machinery wrapped around it: middlemen taking a cut, fraud nobody stops, and billing systems designed to fight over payment instead of deliver care. The result is higher premiums, denied claims, surprise bills, and a system patients increasingly experience as adversarial.
Arlo is rebuilding health insurance for small businesses from first principles: making sure as much of every premium dollar as possible goes to care instead of getting absorbed by the system around it. We do that by identifying fraud earlier, steering members toward higher-quality and lower-cost care, automating operational overhead, and eliminating vendors whose business exists mostly to take a cut.
AI is the foundation that makes this work. We use it across underwriting, operations, clinical programs, and member experience to build an insurer that becomes more efficient as the technology improves.
We’re already operating at meaningful scale: profitable, hundreds of millions in premiums, tens of thousands of members covered, and growing quickly through brokers, employers, and partners. Backed by Upfront Ventures, 8VC, and General Catalyst, with a team from Palantir, YC companies, and longtime healthcare operators.

Evolve our core AI stack by advancing our capabilities in prompt orchestration, context engineering, retrieval systems, and evaluations.
Responsibilities
~1 min readTo give you a sense of the impact you'll have, here are some initial projects you could own:
- →
AI-Powered Triage: Develop an intelligent experience that helps patients understand their symptoms and guides them to the right setting of care (ER, Urgent Care, or PCP). You’ll prevent costly, unnecessary visits and directly save members thousands in out-of-pocket costs.
- →
An Infinitely Scalable Care Partner: Build a conversational AI to help patients understand their health, from decoding lab results to clarifying treatment plans. You'll give members the 24/7 support and infinite patience that the traditional system simply cannot offer.
- →
Proactive Health Engine: Pioneer an outreach tool that analyzes claims data to send personalized, timely campaigns for preventive screenings and medication adherence. You’ll transform healthcare from a system of static, soulless emails into one of dynamic, personal engagement.
This role is a great fit if you are a product-minded engineer who thrives on building with the latest AI technology.
Demonstrated experience shipping full-stack AI products, from backend infrastructure (Python, Postgres) to production LLM applications.
A strong product intuition and deep intellectual curiosity, with a passion for building 0-to-1 experiences in a fast-paced startup environment. You own problems end-to-end.
A pragmatic approach to LLM safety and reliability, with hands-on experience implementing guardrails, red-teaming, and creating evaluation frameworks to manage trade-offs between performance, cost, and latency.
Fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate your development workflow.
Nice to Have
~1 min readExperience with our front-end stack (TypeScript, React).
Familiarity with deploying AI workloads on a major cloud platform (AWS, etc.).
