MAIN FUNCTION:
The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of
patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing
process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The Registered Nurse is
expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by
the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director.
- Performs ongoing, systematic patient assessments with attention to physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Analyzes assessment data to identify appropriate nursing diagnoses.
- Establishes individualized, patient‑centered expected outcomes.
- Develops and prioritizes goal‑directed plans of care based on nursing diagnoses and identified outcomes.
- Identifies patient and significant‑other learning needs and implements appropriate education.
- Implements nursing care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
- Completes timely, accurate, and concise documentation in the patient record and unit systems.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care, healthcare team interventions, and the care environment in achieving patient outcomes.
- Practices with consistent attention to patient safety and institutional safety standards.
- Responds effectively to emergency situations by following established protocols, remaining calm, notifying appropriate personnel, and documenting events.
EDUCATION:
- Current NYS nursing licensure, limited permit or eligible. Excellent communication skills and writing ability. ACLS within 90 days of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Appreciable physical effort required; lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various size, capabilities
and abilities. Some lifting, reaching, and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluid or tissues.
