Ascendant is recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time Communications Specialist position linked to a contract that we hold with the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Communications Specialist will support the Global Markets Communications team in their efforts to engage stakeholders and amplify the program’s work in (i) attracting and retaining foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States through the SelectUSA program; (ii) export promotion activities; (iii) commercial diplomacy; and (iv) advocacy.
The position is based in Washington, D.C. and is metro accessible (Federal Triangle/Metro Center) and requires full-time, onsite presence (five days/week) at the federal client site to support close collaboration and real-time coordination with government stakeholders.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Work alongside various teams within Global Markets to create compelling social media, website, and newsletter content that drives engagement and supports program objectives
- →Develop and manage a year-round social media calendar and support strategic communication campaigns
- →Create and maintain communication plans, style guides, and other foundational materials
- →Maintain program websites ensuring that content is accurate, relevant and up-to-date
- →Design and distribute digital collateral (newsletters, flyers, brochures)
- →Draft briefing materials and talking points for various stakeholders
- →Support branding, graphic design, and multimedia production, including coordinating photographers/videographers and reviewing assets
- →Monitor engagement metrics and prepare quarterly analytics reports
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field and 6+ years of relevant professional experience (or a master’s degree and 4+ years experience)
- Experience in economic development, international trade, or international affairs preferred; prior work with federal clients is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with Hootsuite, GovDelivery, and Drupal desired
- Graphic design experience, including Adobe Creative Suite and social media graphics
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with government stakeholders
- Must successfully complete a public trust background check prior to onboarding
