The Technology Specialist improves student performance by working with teachers to optimize the use of instructional technology in the classroom. This position also establishes a coherent, schoolwide, future-oriented vision for students’ technology learning and collaborates with staff to ensure that students acquire the tech-related skills that they need in order to thrive now and in the future.
Responsibilities:
Student Technology Curriculum
- Works with Tech Integration Coach and Elementary Personnel to:
- Establish and maintain a coherent set of future-oriented student technology learning expectations for technology classes as well as for subject-area integration.
- Help create grade-level scope and sequences for student technology learning expectations when needed.
- Plan for technology cycles with American and Mexican Programs
Teacher Training/specialisting
- Works with Tech Integration Coach and Elementary Personnel to reinforce a clear set of instructional technology expectations for teachers as well as expectations for which tech skills/concepts they need to teach to students.
- Assesses instructional technology competencies among teachers with regards to:
- Their ability to use technology in their instruction to enhance student learning
- Their ability to teach students the tech skills/concepts that are integrated in their subject-areas.
- Works with section administrators and the Tech Integration Coach to set goals for improving staff technology competencies and to plan staff coaching
- Collaborates with teachers in composing effective technology-infused, content-based lessons, and supports the teachers as they implement the lessons in their classrooms
- Promotes model instructional practices and the role of technology in them
- Investigates, evaluates, and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration, sources of information on trends, research, and applications related to technology use in the educational setting.
- Collects and analyzes instructional data to provide Tier 1 recommendations
- Maintains a current expertise of technology integration strategies and specialisting pedagogy.
Educational Technology Resources
- Works with Instructional Programs Director, principals and Technology Manager to:
- gather data on the educational technology (hardware & software) being used schoolwide
- assess the appropriateness of the technology and effectiveness of how it’s being used
- evaluate and recommend instructional technology materials and software to ensure infrastructure and tools are available to carry out school and technology initiatives.
- Coordinates with the Tech Center to ensure the smooth and successful deployment of new educational technologies.
- Supports librarians in evaluation, selection, and use of materials for library Maker Spaces.
- Skilled at using technology (i.e. Google Sheets) to curate and analyze data, transforming it into visual insights that directly support student intervention programs, staff professional development, and real-time situational awareness across the Elementary School.
- In coordination with the Technology Integration Coach, serve as the Elementary School’s technology liaison to families; design and facilitate engaging workshops, occasionally after school hours, and communication strategy throughout the year to boost digital literacy, help parents navigate school platforms, and support healthy tech habits at home.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Attends and actively participates in grade level leader meetings.
- Trains new and current staff on school websites
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Current teaching credential is preferred (or 12 semester hours of educational credits in their teaching area)
- A minimum of three years of successful full-time experience as a classroom teacher; experience teaching technology classes to students is beneficial
- Experience providing professional development for teachers or other adults in the integration of technology for instruction using all of the following modes: modeling, mentoring, one-on-one specialisting, small group workshops, large group presentations.
Professional Skills:
- Knowledge of the ISTE Standards and other relevant curriculum documents
- An in-depth knowledge of instructional technologies and their effect on student learning
- A insightful understanding of technologies and tech-related skills that students need in order to thrive now and in the future
- Stays up-to-date with, quickly learns how to use, and readily implements emerging technologies
- The ability to design and deliver exemplary technology-enhanced instruction based on best practice
- The inclination and ability to collect and use data to identify problems and generate solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills (preferably in both English and Spanish)
- Vision-oriented and goal-oriented planning; effective time management, organizational skills, and prioritization of work to meet the needs of the users.
- Understanding of current issues involving technology that may impact the teaching and learning of students at ASFG.
- The ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with staff:

Start and End Dates:
This position reports for work on the Thursday of the first week of August (with Teacher Leaders), and stops working on the Friday of the third week of June (with all teachers).
