Overview:
The Teacher Assistant will work closely with the 5th-grade team to support both teachers and students during the school day. This position is designed to help manage the increased teaching load of our staff as they teach six periods per day without a prep period, ensuring that students receive the best educational experience while providing the necessary support for teachers to maintain effective classroom environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Classroom Support:
  
  • Assist teachers with daily classroom activities, including helping with small group instruction, managing classroom materials, and providing individualized support for students as needed.
  • Work with students who need additional assistance in the different content area classes
  • Supervise students during independent work, ensuring they stay on task and receive help when needed.
  • Provide behavioral support, ensuring a positive and respectful classroom environment.
    
    
• Recess Supervision:
  
  • Supervise students during recess to reduce the amount of time teachers have supervision responsibilities. 
  • 
    
• Administrative and Organizational Support:
  
  • Help with classroom organization, including setting up and taking down materials for lessons.
    
  • Assist with grading assignments (when appropriate) and maintaining student records (inputting grades into PowerSchool).
    
  • Prepare learning materials (e.g., photocopying, organizing resources) for lessons and activities.
    
    
• Support During Transitions:
  
  • Help with transitions between classes, ensuring students are ready for the next subject and assisting in moving between locations if needed. 
  • Monitoring behavior in the hallways between classes
    
  • Ensure smooth transitions between activities, minimizing disruption and maintaining a structured routine.
    
    
• Collaboration with Teachers:
  
  • Attend team meetings to discuss student progress and provide input on classroom needs.
    
  • Work closely with teachers to plan for student support during individual lessons.
    
  • Provide feedback to teachers on student performance and behavior during classroom sessions.
    
    
• Student Support:
  
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students needing additional academic help or interventions.
    
  • Assist with implementing accommodations for students with special needs
    

• General Support:
  
  • Be a positive, reliable presence in the classroom and on the playground.
    
  • Help promote a positive school culture by encouraging respect, kindness, and responsibility.
    
  • Assist with any other duties as requested by the 5th-grade teaching team or school administration.
