Position Details

  • Position: Certified Midwife 
  • Department: Ashe Women & Children's Health
  • Reports To: Practice Manager / Supervising Physician
  • Status: Full-Time | Exempt
  • Location: On-site in Jefferson, NC
  • Compensation: Pay commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The Certified Midwife provides comprehensive women’s healthcare services including prenatal, postpartum, gynecologic, and preventative care while supporting continuity of care between patient visits. This position works collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered care for women across the lifespan.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, clinically confident, and committed to providing exceptional care to women, infants, and families in both routine and emergent situations.

Patient Population Served

  • Infants (0–1 year)
  • Pediatric patients (1–12 years)
  • Adolescents (13–18 years)
  • Adult women’s health patients
  • Obstetric patients (antepartum and postpartum)
  • Families and visitors
  • Physicians and staff

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Midwife Program required
  • Completion of Lactation Educator Training Program preferred

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of North Carolina required
  • Current Nurse Midwife license in the State of North Carolina required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required
  • PALS certification required
  • NRP certification required

Experience

  • Previous healthcare experience preferred

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Basic computer proficiency required
  • Strong patient and guest relations skills
  • Ability to function effectively in stressful and emergency situations
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work under stressful and emergency situations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and patient care activities
  • General indoor clinical environment
  • Quiet to light noise levels
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required

Occupational Hazards

  • Potential exposure to infectious patients or materials
  • Potential exposure to hazardous substances including cleaning agents and medications
  • Potential exposure to needles and sharp instruments
  • Potential for musculoskeletal strain if proper lifting techniques are not utilized

Additional Employment Requirements

  • Annual Health & Safety Inservice (ADI)
  • Annual Employee Health Screening
  • Back Safety and Body Mechanics training
  • Age-Specific Competency requirements
  • Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations unless an approved exemption has been granted
