We are looking for an experienced Unix/CAD Support Engineer with 8-12 years of IT experience to support and manage Unix/Linux-based engineering environments and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) applications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Unix/Linux system administration, CAD application support, license management, automation, and troubleshooting. This role involves working closely with engineering, design, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure the availability, performance, and security of engineering tools and environments.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Administer and support Unix/Linux servers hosting engineering and CAD applications.
- →Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain CAD software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar engineering applications.
- →Manage CAD application licensing using tools such as FlexNet/FlexLM and troubleshoot licensing issues.
- →Monitor system performance and ensure high availability of engineering environments.
- →Provide L2/L3 technical support for Unix/Linux operating systems and CAD applications.
- →Troubleshoot application, operating system, storage, and network-related issues affecting engineering users.
- →Perform system patching, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery activities.
- →Automate administrative tasks using Shell, Bash, Python, or Perl scripting.
- →Support file-sharing solutions such as NFS, Samba, and distributed storage systems.
- →Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, security, and application teams to implement new solutions and upgrades.
- →Maintain technical documentation, system configurations, and standard operating procedures.
- →Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
- →Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and change management processes.
- Strong hands-on experience with Unix/Linux administration (RHEL, Oracle Linux, SUSE, AIX, Solaris, or Ubuntu).
- Experience supporting CAD/PLM applications such as:
- AutoCAD
- CATIA
- Siemens NX
- PTC Creo
- SolidWorks
- Autodesk products
- Teamcenter or Windchill (preferred)
- Experience with CAD license management tools such as FlexNet/FlexLM.
- Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux commands, file systems, process management, and performance tuning.
- Experience with Shell/Bash scripting and automation.
- Knowledge of NFS, Samba, SSH, DNS, LDAP, and Active Directory integration.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware.
- Understanding of storage, backup, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications in Linux (RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC, or equivalent) are preferred.
- Experience supporting engineering or manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and service management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Exposure to configuration management tools such as Ansible.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds.
- Familiarity with DevOps concepts and CI/CD tools.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to support mission-critical engineering applications with minimal downtime.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on automation, reliability, and continuous improvement.
