At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID). Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members: Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities. Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs. Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development. ## About the role This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 3 days on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities. As ATB's next Director, Credit Oversight you will lead a team that reviews a sample of post-funded loans at various stages of the loan’s lifecycle with the primary objective of identifying loans with actual or potential credit weaknesses so that timely action can be taken to strengthen credit quality and minimize future losses. The team’s work adds value to ATB’s credit granting processes and practices by deploying a systematic, disciplined approach to the evaluation and review of the effectiveness of risk identification in the portfolio as well as the adequacy of documentation, administration, policies, and procedures. Reporting to the Head of Credit Strategy and Governance, the Director, Credit Oversight supports the independent assessment of the effectiveness of ATB's credit risk management processes. As a second line of defense, the review of loans is credit quality based and provides an independent view of the overall quality of the borrower, loan application, internal file management, and associated risks of each. Credit Oversight ensures the control practices within areas of designated authorities, underwriting, collateral and overall credit quality are being carried out at an acceptable level in accordance with ATB's credit policies, business rules and sound credit granting principles to ensure ATB credit assets are well managed and protected. This group is responsible for providing objective assurance via reporting to identify all significant credit risk trends and ensure they are being well managed and controls are effective and efficient. ## Accountabilities * Strategic Planning: Lead the annual evolution of the Credit Oversight Mandate and Operating Plan, ensuring the successful execution of key strategic priorities. * Governance & Standards: Authorize and refine Credit Oversight procedures to ensure operational excellence and alignment with industry best practices. * Quality Assurance: Oversee teams’ loan reviews to ensure consistent methodology in approach, deductions, and documentation of findings. * Expert Validation: Act as a second opinion on loan reviews to validate the accuracy of credit ratings, appropriateness of credit structures, adherence to policies/procedures, and the adequacy of portfolio management activities to identify potential credit weaknesses. * Targeted Insights: Architect targeted testing for specific portfolio segments and deliver comprehensive reports that synthesize credit quality trends, emerging risks, and actionable recommendations for enhancements. * Executive Reporting: Present quarterly findings and strategic updates to senior management, providing transparency on risks and trends. * Policy Advocacy: Review and recommend enhancements to Credit Policies, Business Rules and Processes to provide advice on the adequacy and effectiveness of controls. * People Leadership: Mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering an environment of continuous growth, performance excellence, and strong team engagement. * Strategic Influence: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, leveraging expertise to influence organizational strategy and risk appetite. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Strategic Support Unit and Area of Expertise leadership to transform identified policy or process gaps into decisive, actionable improvements. ## Skills, experience & requirements * Bachelor's and/or Master's degree. * 8+ years of credit-focused banking experience; preference will be given to individuals with significant prior credit oversight, lending, credit risk management, regulatory supervision, or similar work experience with specific sector experience. Sectors include, but are not limited to, consumer, corporate, commercial real estate, energy and technology. * Advanced proficiency in loan underwriting, ratings analysis, and credit/loan documentation, underpinned by an understanding of banking regulations and risk management frameworks. * Highly organized and capable of managing multiple initiatives concurrently while maintaining operational excellence. * Exceptional report-writing skills, with a proven ability to synthesize data into concise, professional narratives for diverse audiences. * A proactive and agile professional with a high degree of intellectual curiosity to challenge the status quo. * Demonstrated ability to provide expert consultation to senior management, leveraging strong interpersonal skills to ignite cross-functional initiatives and influence outcomes beyond the immediate team. * An empathetic leader dedicated to coaching and mentoring diverse teams, with a focus on fostering a culture of collaboration, adaptability and continuous improvement. Don’t meet all the requirements on the list? A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.
