At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID). Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members: Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities. Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs. Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development. ## About the role As the Director of Market Risk Oversight & Counterparty Credit Risk, you will provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational success over ATB’s traded financial risks. In an environment where ATB Capital Markets is scaling into a full-service broker, this leadership role bridges the gap between sophisticated trading activities and robust institutional risk boundaries. You will manage a dedicated team of risk professionals and act as a senior expert advisor across the second line of defense. This role transforms risk oversight from flat compliance into a proactive, data-driven vertical that delivers deep analytical insights, robust independent challenges, and strategic protection of the firm’s bottom line. ## Accountabilities #### #### Strategic Leadership & Governance * Develop and execute the long-term vision, strategy, and operating standards for the Trade Floor Market Risk Oversight and Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) pillars. * Own, maintain, and spearhead limit reviews and calibrations, collaborating with risk and front office stakeholders to ensure risk limits are aligned with risk appetite and business strategy. * Be the subject matter expert for annual and intra-cycle updates of the Board-level Market Risk Management Policy and accompanying Frameworks. * Act as a core member and senior presenter at the Market Risk Oversight Committee (MROC), presenting key market and counterparty credit risk insights and effectively escalating risk postures to the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO). * Lead the review and implementation of new traded products via the New Initiative Risk Assessment Process (NIRAP) to safely onboard new capital market instruments and product lines. * Design, implement, and execute a rigorous 2nd line control framework to continuously validate market risk and counterparty credit risk models via systematic backtesting. #### #### Market Risk Oversight & Analytics * Oversee independent daily monitoring and granular analysis of desk-level trading risks across traded securities and derivatives products (including Fixed Income, Interest Rates, Foreign Exchange, Equities, and Commodities). * Ensure absolute integrity of end-of-day (EOD) and intra-day risk reporting metrics, including Value-at-Risk (VaR), Stressed VaR (SVaR), sensitivities/Greeks (DV01, CS01), and Notional limits. * Direct real-time limit excess management and breach escalation protocols across first and second lines of defense. * Drive the end-to-end framework for ensuring that market risk models, measurements, and risk engines are structurally sound, comprehensive, and accurate. * Establish robust processes and controls to guarantee that all risk factors—specifically complex nuances like basis risk (including tenor, currency, and index basis mismatches), volatility smiles, and correlation breakdowns—are fully captured, mapped, and measured * Lead the development and enhancement of trade floor and counterparty credit risk reporting and analytics to foster proactive risk management. * Strengthen and maintain the robustness of market risk frameworks by effectively identifying and capturing risks across unique, complex, and bespoke business lines (e.g., equity bought deals, off-market trades) #### #### Counterparty Credit Risk Oversight * Formulate and enforce the strategic 2nd line framework for all traded credit exposures, including Potential Future Exposure (PFE) profiles, single name issuer risk and settlement risk. * Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and rigorous governance of model inputs feeding into counterparty credit risk engines, including credit curve mappings, ensuring that Potential Future Exposure (PFE) model parameters are mathematically sound and reflective of current market dynamics * Monitor portfolio concentrations and counterparty credit updates across Issuer Risk, Repo, Derivatives, and Collateral frameworks. * Strengthen Counterparty Credit Risk policies & frameworks by aligning with industry and regulatory best practices. ## Skills, experience & requirements ### #### Required Qualifications * A University degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, or a highly quantitative discipline. * 8+ years of progressive experience working within financial markets in either a 1st line (Front Office/Execution) or 2nd line (Risk Management) financial risk role. * Professional certifications such as FRM, CFA, or PRMIA are a strong asset. #### Core Technical Skills * Mastered expertise in multi-asset Capital Markets financial instruments (FICC derivatives, equities, repo, debt capital markets). * Advanced understanding of derivative pricing, risk-neutral and real-world simulation modeling frameworks, Monte Carlo engines, and volatility skews/smiles. * In-depth practical knowledge of risk systems, specifically Murex and Bloomberg (MARS/TOMS). * Quantitative data proficiency utilizing tools like Python, SQL, and Google BigQuery (DEEP architecture). #### #### Leadership & Interpersonal Attributes * Proven people leader capable of mentoring high-performing analysts and managers, cultivating technical excellence, and fostering a collaborative, psychological safe culture. * Elite stakeholder management and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver a credible, robust challenge to first-line business line heads and traders. Don’t meet all the requirements on the list? A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you. We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed—their way.
