Company overview
The Aerospace Technology Institute sits at the centre of UK aerospace research and technology. It is responsible for the UK’s Aerospace Technology Strategy and the promotion of transformative technology in air transport, representing a joint industry and Government commitment to R&D funding of over £5 billion to 2035. The ATI represents a single, coherent national aerospace technology development programme that aims to strengthen the links between industry and academia whilst maximising opportunities for UK industry to gain access to European R&T programmes. It is a truly game-changing initiative, whose objective is to secure economic growth for the UK’s aerospace sector, for a more sustainable future. Projects funded through the ATI programme secure jobs, maintain skills and deliver economic benefits across the UK.
The ATI establishes the pathway for technology progression for UK aerospace, which builds on the UK’s strengths and responds to the challenges faced by the UK civil aerospace sector. It also provides a roadmap of the innovation necessary to keep the UK competitive in the global aerospace market, whilst also complementing the broader strategy for the sector created by the Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP).
The ATI works in partnership with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Innovate UK to offer funding streams designed to accelerate innovation in the UK to maintain global competitiveness.
A small and young company charged with a big responsibility, the ATI encourages free thinking and innovation. The Opportunity
Position Title: Strategy Analyst
Job Type: Permanent
Location: London (Hybrid Working)
Travel: As required
Reporting to: Head of Analytics and Economics
The Role
The post holder will provide analytical support to the Strategy & Innovation function by contributing to the ATI’s market modelling, analytics, economics, and decision‑support capabilities. The role is designed for an early‑career professional with strong quantitative foundations who is motivated to develop capability across modelling, data science, data engineering, and executive‑level insight generation. The post holder will also be expected to play a leading role in the deployment of AI toolsets and automation across the ATI.
Key activities and responsibilities:
- Modelling and analysis: Contribute to updates of ATI market models, including integration of new datasets, parameter assumptions, and maintenance of sensitivity/scenario analyses; ensure clear documentation of methodologies, inputs and caveats.
- Business intelligence and visualisation: Develop and maintain Power BI datasets and reports (Power Query/M, DAX) using sound dimensional modelling (e.g., star schema) and versioned refresh processes to support decision‑making by internal and external stakeholders.
- Data management and quality: Prepare, transform and validate data using SQL and, where appropriate, Python or R; apply coding standards, basic tests, and repository hygiene to ensure reproducibility.
- Insight communication: Produce concise briefing notes, dashboards and presentations that set out findings, limitations and implications; present analysis to colleagues and contribute to external outputs as required.
- Continuous improvement: Support the adoption of good practice in modelling governance, BI standards, and (where appropriate) safe, value‑adding use of AI‑assisted tooling within ATI guardrails.
The Candidate
We’re seeking a candidate who shares our core values and brings them to life in everything they do. The candidate will need to demonstrate a forward-thinking mindset and lead with accountability. They must believe in the power of collaboration for success by working effectively with others to achieve shared goals.
Qualifications and Experience should include:
- Degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Analytics, or a closely related discipline.
- Practical experience in Python (pandas) or R, and SQL for data preparation and analysis.
- Working knowledge of Power BI (Power Query/M and basic DAX) and a clear motivation to develop advanced BI capability.
- Sound statistics fundamentals (e.g., descriptive statistics, regression/forecasting basics, uncertainty and sensitivity).
- Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly across a variety of communication modes, including verbally, presentations, and reports.
- Practical experience using generative AI tools to augment analysis, utilising structured prompting and disciplined validation of outputs
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience with data‑model design (star/snowflake), Power BI Service (workspaces, permissions, deployment pipelines) and/or Microsoft Fabric.
- Knowledge of aerospace markets and value chains (e.g., platform families; OE vs. aftermarket/MRO).
- Exposure to MATLAB or C++ for model prototyping, optimisation or performance‑critical routines (advantageous but not required).
- Familiarity with econometrics and time‑series methods beyond the basics.
- Awareness of responsible AI and data protection considerations when using AI systems (e.g., governance, transparency, privacy/security)
Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
