Junior Software Quality Assurance Engineer (QA + Bug Fixes) USD
Quick Summary
Job Description
About the Role
~1 min readWe are seeking a detail-oriented Software Quality Assurance Engineer whose primary responsibility is to find bugs before our customers do. You will spend most of your time testing new features, attempting to break workflows, identifying edge cases, documenting issues, and validating fixes.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys investigating problems, thinking critically, and improving software quality. While the majority of the role is quality assurance, candidates with basic development skills will have opportunities to implement minor fixes and grow into a larger engineering role over time.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Test new software releases and existing features.
- Intentionally attempt to break workflows and uncover bugs.
- Perform regression testing before releases.
- Create detailed bug reports with reproduction steps, screenshots, and videos.
- Verify that reported bugs have been fixed correctly.
- Test software across different devices, browsers, and user scenarios.
- Identify usability issues and recommend improvements.
- Investigate customer-reported issues and reproduce them.
- Implement minor frontend and backend bug fixes.
- Update UI elements, validation rules, and small workflows.
- Assist developers with testing and deployment verification.
- Help maintain testing documentation and quality standards.
Requirements
~1 min read- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written English communication skills.
- Ability to think through edge cases and unusual user behavior.
- Basic understanding of web applications and SaaS products.
- Familiarity with browser developer tools.
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Git.
- Ability to work independently during overnight U.S. business hours.
- Prior QA or software testing experience.
- Experience writing bug reports.
- Familiarity with React, Node.js, or TypeScript.
- Experience using project management tools such as Jira, Trello, or ClickUp.
- Bugs are identified before customers encounter them.
- Bug reports are clear, actionable, and reproducible.
- Releases are thoroughly tested and stable.
- Customer-reported issues are quickly reproduced and verified.
- Product quality continuously improves over time.
For a $7/hour hire in the Philippines, this framing is likely to attract stronger QA-minded candidates than calling it a developer role. The people who enjoy "trying to break things" are often your best early-stage QA hires.
