Position Overview:
The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Recreation Program Instructor I- Day Camp Part Time Seasonal
The Recreation Program Instructor I - Day Camp is responsible for coordinating, planning, implementing, supervising, and participating in age-appropriate activities for the Recreation Center’s Summer Day Camp & Adventure Summer Day Camp programs offered to school aged children. This position serves as a liaison between the Avon Recreation Center and visiting parents who require childcare.

Essential Functions:
1. Supervise, interact, and provide care in a calm, safe, playful environment for children.
2. Develop and implement daily lesson plans and activities for the summer day camp program.
3. Oversee schedules and work assignments of Day Camp Instructors
4. Serve as a leader and mentor, working to create a healthy environment and bring about positive change in behaviors, attitudes, and values of day campers.
5. Maintain complete and accurate daily attendance records.
6. Provide leadership to instructors and campers by following routine and delivering camp program.
7. Complete cleaning checklist for opening or closing shifts.
8. Monitor condition of camp equipment, report damage to Recreation Programs Supervisor and maintain accurate inventory of necessary snacks and supplies.
9. Report any injuries to the Recreation Programs Supervisor and follow up with an Incident Report
10. Comply with all Town of Avon safety and health policies and procedures, including the use of protective equipment and clothing, to ensure all possible safety measures are observed, enforce the rules of the childcare area and the Recreation Center to promote a safe work environment.

Qualifications
1. Knowledge and interest of children and concern for their proper care and wellbeing
2. Dependable, creative, caring, requires minimal supervision and neat in appearance.
3. Ability to perform physical duties requiring a full range of body movements.
4. Ability to handle confidential issues appropriately.
5. Ability to follow directions and effectively communicate with children, Recreation Center staff, school officials and parents.
6. Ability to organize and coordinate the work of others.
7. Ability to perform multiple tasks, handle emergency situations, and make sound decisions.
8. Ability to submit results of current TB test.
9. Must possess a valid Colorado Drivers’ License
Special Requirements:
Program Instructor I position requires applicants to be at least 16 years of age, have a state issued ID and experience with school-age children (5-12 years old) is preferred but not required, training will be provided. Possession of a current CPR/AED/First Aid certificate is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and may be subject to random, unannounced drug and alcohol testing as outlined in the Town’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.
The Town reserves the right to suspend or extend the posting deadline based on receipt of qualified candidates.
