Day in the Life:
The Veterinary Clinic Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Arizona Humane Society's Sunnyslope Full Service and Spay/Neuter Clinics. This position oversees all aspects of clinic operations, including financial management, regulatory compliance, staff leadership, and performance management, while upholding AHS's core values of Innovation, Compassion, and Excellence. The Veterinary Clinic Manager ensures the delivery of high-quality veterinary services, exceptional client experiences, and efficient clinic operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
This role is responsible for developing and managing clinic budgets, monitoring financial performance, overseeing payroll and staffing, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements and regulatory standards. In partnership with the Premise Holder, Lead Veterinarian, and DEA registrants, the Veterinary Clinic Manager maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing veterinary practice, controlled substances, and facility licensing.
The Veterinary Clinic Manager also leads recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and retention efforts while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Through the analysis of operational metrics and close collaboration with organizational leadership, this position identifies opportunities to enhance workflows, improve service delivery, and support the Arizona Humane Society's mission of providing exceptional care to animals and the community.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Veterinary Practice Management, Animal Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- CVT or CVMP certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in a veterinary, healthcare, or animal welfare environment, including responsibility for staff supervision and operational management.
- Full Service veterinary clinic experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of veterinary practice operations, regulatory compliance, inventory management, and purchasing processes.
- Experience developing, managing, and monitoring departmental budgets and financial performance.
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and engage high-performing teams while fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Strong customer service and public relations skills with the ability to effectively address client concerns and build collaborative relationships.
- Experience analyzing operational data and utilizing metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).
- Must pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, including medical supplies, equipment, or animal-related materials. The ability to hear and communicate effectively in a busy clinic environment is required.
This position is regularly exposed to animals and may encounter animal-related noise, odors, dander, fur, cleaning chemicals, and occasional exposure to wet or slippery surfaces. Work may also involve exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and outdoor conditions while moving between facilities or operational areas.
The majority of work is performed in a climate-controlled office and veterinary clinic environment; however, the employee should be comfortable working in areas where animals are housed, treated, or transported.
