Asset Resolution Specialist is a high-impact individual contributor responsible for managing a portfolio of delinquent loans through expert loss mitigation, proactive borrower engagement, and disciplined execution from initial default through final resolution. This role plays a critical part in protecting Backflip’s loan portfolio and investor relationships by minimizing loss exposure, maintaining borrower trust, and ensuring every delinquent loan has an active strategy and a clear path forward.
This is a customer-facing, high-accountability role focused on loss mitigation and asset resolution. The Asset Resolution Specialist directly impacts Backflip’s bottom line by recovering value from distressed loans and preserving the investor relationships that fuel the business. By resolving defaults efficiently and with empathy, this role reduces financial losses, protects Backflip’s reputation with capital partners, and ensures borrowers have a clear path forward — even in difficult circumstances.
This position reports to the Sr. Asset Resolution Specialist and offers the opportunity to play a key role in scaling a critical function within a fast-growing, tech-enabled real estate lender. This is a remote role, with occasional travel required (company offsites, etc.).
Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of delinquent loans and implement customized loss mitigation strategies for each borrower, owning the file from initial default through final resolution.

Analyze workout options — foreclosure, short sale, reinstatement, and deed in lieu, based on financial impact to the investor, and deliver well-reasoned proposals for the optimal resolution path.

Work closely with investors to negotiate loss mitigation strategies, set clear expectations on outcomes, and maintain strong relationships throughout the process.

Serve as the primary point of contact for borrowers navigating financial hardship, guiding them through available options with empathy, directness, and deep knowledge of the loss mitigation process.

Maintain real-time accuracy across all servicing systems, ensuring every loan status, communication, and decision is promptly documented and fully transparent to internal stakeholders.

Identify process gaps, generate ideas for increased efficiency, and support the implementation of new initiatives that strengthen the Special Servicing Team’s execution.
Requirements
~1 min read2+ years of customer-facing experience required.
2+ years of mortgage experience preferred, with direct familiarity in loss mitigation processes.
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex guidelines clearly to both borrowers and investors.
General knowledge of the full loss mitigation process, including foreclosure, short sale, reinstatement, and deed in lieu.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage a high-volume delinquent loan pipeline and drive accounts to resolution.
Strong negotiation skills and comfort navigating difficult conversations with distressed borrowers and demanding investors.
Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously, prioritize effectively, and maintain consistent execution in a fast-paced environment.
Every loan in your portfolio has an active resolution strategy, clear documentation, and regular forward progress — no file stalls without a defined reason and next step.
Workout recommendations are grounded in sound financial analysis, aligned with investor guidelines, and delivered with enough clarity that decisions get made quickly and confidently.
Borrowers and investors feel informed and respected throughout the resolution process, with proactive communication at every stage and no surprises.
You identify risks early and escalate before they become problems, ensuring no legal deadline, investor obligation, or borrower commitment is missed.

Compensation for this role includes a base salary of $55,000 - $60,000 (based on experience). In addition, Backflip employees receive equity stock options, paid health care, and a 401K + company match, among other industry-leading benefits.
