We are partnering with an established business in Cape Town looking for a hands-on Databricks Workspace Administrator to own, govern, and scale their platform. This position sits at the intersection of platform engineering, governance, and tenant enablement.
In this role, you will act as the technical enabler—structuring workspaces so internal data science, analytics, and GenAI teams can onboard seamlessly and run workloads safely. You will engage directly with multiple tenant teams to understand their use cases and recommend optimal workspace and access patterns.
The Package: Up to R75K per month + Cape Town hybrid model.
- Shape the GenAI Lifecycle: Actively enable internal teams to deploy advanced analytics, Machine Learning, and Generative AI workloads efficiently.
- Build Advanced Observability: When core configurations are stable, you will design and deploy deep monitoring pipelines and dashboards—tracking application usage metrics, LLM rate limits/token usage, and inference tables for drift detection.
- Broaden Your Skillset: Expand your expertise across platform governance, advanced data pipelines, and enterprise automation patterns.
- Workspace Governance: Act as the Workspace Admin to manage access controls, cluster policies, and job permissions while enforcing cost and usage controls.
- Catalog & Governance Management: Design, create, and manage Unity Catalog structures (catalogs, schemas, tables/views) aligned to governance standards.
- Identity & Service Principal Management: Create and manage service principals, groups, and permission assignments to support non-human identities for CI/CD and automation.
- Tenant Enablement: Onboard tenant teams, run enablement sessions, and troubleshoot platform configuration and access issues.
- Pipeline & Dashboard Maintenance: Set up and maintain Hive/Glue and JDBC data pipelines alongside developing SQL-based monitoring dashboards.
- Databricks Admin Core: 2+ years of hands-on experience as a Databricks Workspace Admin.
- Identity Management: 2+ years of experience managing users, groups, and service principals using least-privilege access models.
- Data Pipeline Setup: 2+ years of experience with Hive/Glue and JDBC data pipeline setup and maintenance within the Databricks ecosystem.
- Enterprise Environment Depth: 4+ years operating in an enterprise or regulated environment with strong governance requirements.
- Ecosystem Understanding: 4+ years of solid understanding of how data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML teams consume platform services.
- Communication: 4+ years of experience communicating and engaging directly with multiple tenant teams.
- Experience supporting ML or Generative AI workloads on Databricks (e.g., RAG-style patterns, model serving, evaluation workflows).
- Experience integrating Databricks with CI/CD and automation patterns.
- Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud platform concepts relevant to Databricks operations.
- Experience contributing to platform standards, templates, and self-service onboarding.
