The Quality Assurance Supervisor is accountable to assist in the development and administration of Food Safety and Quality, and laboratory programs that result in compliance with BAF policies and procedures, FDA, GMP's

  • All employees are responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality, safety issues, or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.

  1. Audit and ensure compliance with customer requirements, FDA regulations and GMPs, HACCP, as well as all BAF product safety and sanitation policies, procedures and guidelines. Participate in investigation and resolution of customer complaints, foreign material sightings, and reject product episodes. Ensure maintenance of appropriate ingredient, supplies and product records. Resolve direct material quality issues and warehouse receiving problems.
  2. Lead by example in coaching, developing, and training plant employees on quality and food safety tasks. Conduct timely performance appraisals for direct reports, providing effective feedback. Offer expertise and resources for product analysis, safety, and sanitation training. Ensure accurate and efficient analysis and reporting of ingredients and products. Audit employees for competency and adherence to laboratory procedures. Verify product attributes are analyzed per correct procedures and frequencies. Make necessary changes to align practices with expected outcomes, including submitting document change requests.
  3. Ensure the laboratory and the facility is equipped with all of the necessary supplies and functioning, calibrated equipment necessary to complete required testing. Purchase all routinely used items in the most cost-effective manner staying within the departmental budget. Troubleshoot and make minor repairs to testing equipment. Budget and coordinate equipment calibration, and service contracts.
  4. Manage various document systems including analytical results, HOLD forms, equipment calibration records, etc. to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Deliver accurately and on time all customer requests for documentation and samples. Coordinate the storage and rotation of all library samples and quality assurance records, ensuring that they are maintained for specified BAF time periods.
  5. Complete regular SAFE observations within the manufacturing facility and lab areas. Ensure attendance of self and staff at all required safety meetings. Ensure that all staff members are aware of and observe all laboratory and plant safety policies, MSDS's for all chemicals used in the laboratory and other administrative and engineering safety controls. Actively participate in LEAN management practices such as standard work, tiered meetings, and visual controls.
  6. Must maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity while embodying the company values. Must maintain the highest standards of data management by creating consistent, reliable data, which will ensure accuracy and in turn, maximize the use of data and confidence in decision making. Must be responsible for upholding the principles of SQF and is responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality, or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.
  7. In the instance of the QA Manager's absence the QA Supervisor will act as the SQF Practitioner. In the event of the Supervisor's absence a trained designee will be appointed by management.
  • Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.) in a science discipline from four-year college or university; and two to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent of 5 to 6 years of job related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, government regulations and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Word Processing software.
  • Certification in HACCP Principles and PCQI, as an SQF Practitioner, and participation in auditor training or a willingness to complete upon employment
