  • Analyzes incoming raw materials, in process and finished products in accordance with procedures - base or redox titrations, particle size analyzers, gravimetric analysis, melt point, color comparison, etc.
  • Records all results in laboratory notebook and/or electronic files following the appropriate procedures.
  • Report, investigate and record non-conforming materials results to manager in a timely manner; notify appropriate plant personnel of current production material failing its specification OR outside its prescribed action limits/target values.
  • Prepares and standardize laboratory reagents according to written procedures.
  • Ensure that all analytical glassware is clean; maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments as needed. Instruments include, but not limited to, balances, auto titrators, pH meters, refractometers, and microscopes.
  • Collect and prepare samples for submission to outside laboratories utilizing the appropriate chain-of-custody and shipping requirements.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards.
  • Participates in plant daily inspections and in plant process and internal audits.
  • Participates in proficiency testing to demonstrate the accuracy and reproducibility of data being reported from the QC laboratory.
  • Support efforts regarding “continuous improvement” by being an active participant on various site teams or initiatives.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards.
  • Performs other investigations/duties under the direction of the Quality Manager.

Requirements

  • AAS degree in chemistry with a minimum of one-year experience in analytical chemistry; or at least three years of experience in an analytical laboratory or related process laboratory; or bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and organize technical data for communications and analysis. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Lab work involves standing, walking, and repetitive motion with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Operates various laboratory equipment such as burettes, balances and microscopes etc.
  • Work with various analytical chemicals and chemical ingredients
  • Works inside a laboratory, subject to fumes, odors, gases; MSDS describes hazardous materials.
