Staff Software Engineer

Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check. 

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help build and scale BambooHR’s AI platform, powering the next generation of intelligent product experiences. This team creates the foundation for AI-first development across the company, including LLM orchestration, agent frameworks, and observability systems that enable other teams to confidently build and operate AI-driven features.

As part of this effort, you’ll lead initiatives that embed intelligence directly into the product—using customer context to surface signals, recommend next steps, and take action on behalf of users, with thoughtful human oversight for critical decisions. This work is central to our goal of becoming the #1 HR platform for small and medium businesses by building a product that doesn’t just support work, but actively helps do it.

You will:

• Design and build core components of our AI platform, including LLM orchestration, agent workflows, and observability systems that enable teams to develop and operate AI-driven features with confidence
• Lead the development of scalable, reliable systems that integrate seamlessly into BambooHR’s product ecosystem
• Improve the platform by evolving our systems, tooling, and development practices as we learn what it takes to build and operate AI-powered software
• Write code for back end processes and experiences, tooling, automation, and our industry-leading applications
• Research technologies and engineer complete solutions to problems
• Propose and implement performance optimizations and scaling strategies
• Work with the rest of the team to integrate your projects into the application
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our systems and processes
• Mentor and guide engineers, raising the bar for technical quality and helping others navigate the complexities of building with AI
• Understand and apply business needs to the technical solutions. Drive the best value for our customers and the company.

• →10+ years of experience in web development
• →Service Development in a language like PHP, Python, Java, or C#, and a desire to work in Python
• →Object-Oriented development
• →MySQL - both SQL query language and database structure/design
• →Version control software, preferably Git
• →Experience writing and debugging CI / CD processes and tools
• →Experience with tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes to enable local development 
• →Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, presentations, etc.

• Experience partnering with Product, Design, and Architecture
• Strong stakeholder management and communication
• Service-minded, platform-first mindset
• Proven technical leadership and architectural impact
• Experience with AI systems, LLMs, or agent frameworks
• Proficiency in PHP, React, TypeScript, and Python
• Experience building and scaling SaaS products
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
