We’re seeking a compassionate and creative Activities Assistant to join our team at Shannon Oaks on a casual basis. In this role, you’ll assist with planning and delivering programs and events that foster holistic wellness and social connection for our residents.
Reporting to the Activity Manager, you’ll help residents experience emotional, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual well-being through meaningful activities, outings, and community involvement.
About the Role
~1 min readAs an Activities Assistant, you will assist in organizing and implementing a variety of programs and events that encourage healthy living, engagement, and connection. You’ll support outings, volunteers, and event logistics while helping maintain a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment.
Please note: This is a casual position, meaning hours vary based on program needs and availability.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAssist in planning, organizing, and evaluating programs and events that promote wellness and build community.
Create and post activity calendars, notices, and schedules in a timely manner, including sign-up sheets and payments.
Assist with setup and takedown of furnishings and equipment for activities and events.
Drive the Baptist Housing bus for Independent and Assisted Living residents (Class 4 license preferred).
Plan and organize bus trips, scenic drives, mall visits, and day outings.
Manage logistics including financial considerations and communicate plans with the Activity Manager.
Maintain attendance records, activity reports, statistics, and progress updates as requested.
Ensure the bus and activity spaces are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
Develop and maintain relationships with volunteers, community organizations, and team members.
Support teamwork and a culture of health, safety, and servant leadership
Perform other duties as assigned that reflect your skills and competencies.
Requirements
~1 min read- Grade 12 education and completion of recognized recreational courses for seniors.
- Experience working with seniors and organizing group activities, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Physically and mentally able to perform assigned duties.
- Resident-focused with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and adapt activities to resident needs and interests.
- Preferred: Class 4 unrestricted driver’s license.
